Joseph Cox passed away yesterday actually lived in suburban Colorado. Big hit it would stocks that snow's career got launched pollution did a good impersonation as well and I know from back in the old days like. DJ in clubs and so forth if you played this Joe Cocker song. Everybody gets up and dance. Alia who was the big scene in the movie night and a half weeks in Mickey Rourke is sit and Kim Basinger desert stands idly and anyone gets thrown everything under the refrigerator. That same scene. Ketchup and and so were sort. Then no different scene name. But you know when you're young you'll look at that you and younger and very very young and maybe before you don't you look at it like wild and it's time. And an athlete on our home what do you say who's getting clean I'll add up the other and I realized this is what's your read the nice hotel right Lieberman. Tip for the house book app I had a Bellevue immediately go back of that hotel. What does that the bag Edison ketchup and aches no I don't think it is because somewhere else. We talked seriously today Chris we'll have some levity about. Christmas lights and an if you like all white if you like red and green if you like all one color. If you like multi colored blink he's solid etc. Like all wait no link. You. Yeah I do I do the judges the the regular lights and ID you know kind of paying down from you know the icicles beauty bicycles. A predictability and there. Well I'll just as people like icicles and but first it's about these. To police officers and by the way. Not this year have anything to do with a one was is bank in the other one was Asian so. This nut job that shot Molly were nick Carr who posted on. FaceBook that he was gonna. Make. It takes emirates and I guess had tried even scored with Eric Gardiner and Michael. Around. Yeah aim and shoot like. Cops maybe it was a police thing and not a race thing on and on and it crowd chanting what do we want to add cops in the newspapers as you know what. Everybody that was in their deal and then you've got blood on ukrainians. And talk about the atmosphere of police officers. Have you gripping Chris driving around is in office just pulled in a vacant parking lot to Sydney. Maybe in and secondary mine distortion. And maybe there on their computer or something now's and you wondered. If that was safe for non. Up for the police saw yesterday released I've never really considered their safety in math I did because I thought you know what if I'm sick mamet target man am in a police car. Maybe doing some on a computer and in my piece company have to do but my head would be on a swivel on Tony because I don't know of anybody at any old score to settle or any thing. So target about we're talking about that and then. It will talk about. The freedom of speech I mean. And we have freedom of speech but do you really have the right. BT and what do we want dead cops the mayor of New York City you know what can you maybe stop this until funerals are over Nixon knoller did you know. So talk about that get your take as well we'll talk to. I retired NYPD sergeant it is take no talking constitutional lawyer so again a lot of it wanna talk deal out of Christmas a lot today to. Merry Christmas happy holidays when you say what's appropriate. I sing happy holidays to I don't know what the orientation is of the people. To whom I am speaking Chris Miller Jordan fetal Tommy Tucker Manning the radio stations we have big 878 debit WL on. The day before Christmas see December 23 will be back in a flash. Yeah. Tommy Tucker Davida if you will quick look at the weather boy get cloudy breezy mild 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Till 10 o'clock tonight then. The front comes through. Flows north of late 51 south 53 for Christmas Eve itself. Cloudy in the morning clearing later in the afternoon turns a lot colder highs around 58 feeling like the forties and for Christmas Eve. Night when a lot of people would go on to family gatherings and so forth clear breezy and cold Temps in the forties. Feel like the thirty's seemingly little sweater and jacket or whatever the ladies we are with boots and then Christmas Day sunny cool pretty nice about frost and Julie of the lake. In Chile south Italy starred lows 39 and only goes up to 57. There's a column in a New York newspaper that talks about a crowd chanting what do we want and they say did cops. And they got what they wanted. Two police officers assassinated. In from Brooklyn I believe it was and they Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood which is not the best. And the the newspaper reporter says of the columnists loses blood on Manning and this morning and I think they're right Joseph. Jack Malone joins us right now retired NYPD police sergeant and a current and German professor. At John Jay College of Criminal Justice morning Joseph. You know. Obviously I could be better we're a long way from New York but that is this is so tragic in so many ways. And so senseless and you wore the uniform will what was your reaction to this in your take on. The mayor New York understand you visited the officer in a hospital and all the offices turn their back going. Because they feel is the data they didn't get any support and it's. Well yes I mean like everybody knows it and my condolences go out the sampling and yes I mean. It was so public rhetoric built up over the last few months with the killing them there. Honor and Michael brown and this is finally culminated into what we're talking about that. You know I don't know if this had anything to do with race or bomb just being a police officer but but I couldn't help but think last night. Because this guy had posted on FaceBook this animal at slaughtered these two officers that humvee used trying to to get back from Michael Brown. And Eric garner. And the police officers he shot they weren't even white. From day one was Asian and one was Latino or Hispanic calories Sayed and that this whole thing seems so senseless and in light of that how of how concerned because I don't think police are afraid of much how concerned are today. That does the lead to copycat kind of things and and inspire other nut jobs on their tried the same thing. Well within twelve hours there was another attempt Donald Light up in the Bronx in New York City but just begun to Google. Allen and then. Yet so I mean it's got just this attack on the result is that is you know. Police or the country currency right now you'll have to be concerned about this. Because the Internet. Because of how people precede the police in the basically didn't like that the leak of the day. And you know there's some people deciding who had mentally used to when they've believed. Then on charges that. Now it's just wishing that it is come down that it has eloquently had a good discussion about it until you know to do police detective that was located Chia Pets though that it. And did talk about. You know at the police to. It seems to me in his New York. Columnist. Bob McMahon has sent an up popular areas in New York but. You know he said. The Citi Field the police officers in the media did as well and I think if you look at Michael Ferguson if you look at Eric garner. I don't know of it's because. Did their appealing to a certain demographic or what but they're trying to deal but. I think you're right and I think he's right that there is this automatic presumption. That the police officers wrong and win we've had it here in new long ones even though. Not so long ago was a lady officer bio was killed by a mental patient with our own gun. Who wrestled the gun away from our do you think the average person gets what do police officers up against. Though they don't and unfortunately that's the part that makes the police culture too because. Police offices you know that should work and made the paperwork they do that separates them from you know particularly the regular people. And it is just another of the situation with the general public doesn't have. Have a kind of grant what police doctors have to go through what he's doing and yet we signed up for that you're beyond the people please sign up for the but you know response that is so we will somebody gonna do. So you know few would be willing to I think just about an Italian for what a police officer makes. You for sought to get to decide whether to shoot in 1980s to preserve your life or somebody else's. Immediately you are under what ever kind of scrutiny you couldn't be it goes now Lotta times to a political decision. And you're looking at on a jail with the people you've been arresting to try to protect the public. Sure I mean it's it's been careful balance every day that we sold it at that beautiful on. And I guess that you mention about that of the racial makeup of the opposite delicately it's not so much that it's not a race it's just that that the report that. What they want it's not. You know who's it's that you want to. Let's take a break here we come back on ask you about you know on if you wanna call it a spiral or every action equals. An opposing reaction but housing can affect the average officer and how is it gonna change how they interact with people. And then how are they going to be perceived by the public which is gonna affect maybe how they interact with people at setter doesn't Jacqueline I guess a retired NYPD sergeant. Current adjunct professor. At job you at John Jay college in criminal justice and Yemeni questions we'd love to hear from the NT six O. 187 in the last you have do you think there's a climate of anti police rhetoric or feeling right now that's worsen in the past. And in in in light of the tragedy that happened in New York Willis she goes if there's any way to train officers. To be ready for the six Sony three time to take a look at that traffic atomic circuit evident QL 627 the day before Christmas Eve a tragic time for. A couple of families in New York that. Most officers that were in a family just assassinated as they said name carved by. A nut case and now even mention his name because I don't think he's worthy of another officer and are against years of Jack alone who. Told me about this. A couple hours after those two offices were executed by that not. A couple of police officers answered a call about a guy she'd nod windows with a gun they showed up. 9 o'clock Saturday night eighteen year old Terrence is gun owning officer point blank range bulls triggered thankfully. Apparently he would use up all the bullets that he had at least. Rounds in the pistol Joseph GA coney retired NYPD sergeant Carr and adjunct professor at the John Jay college. Of criminal justice before I went to break last year. How does there's some how does is affect the interactions. Of police officers with the people they encounter on a daily basis and if they're going to be a lot more cautious or maybe not as patient do people then feel as though they've had a bad experience with police which leads of people will be more cautious. The police rather and then you understand what I'm saying a downward spiral here. Sure I mean if you think about it you put yourself in the opposite issues now not knowing if the Yankees will need to trapper complexion and the average run. Kind of like a sword that in these you know with the Black Liberation Army would they would they call it state radio runs and then execute the office as an act and you know this slows down the whole process because police officers who generally run blindly in it in that things. Now take it step back because their own safety that you're fears about cute you know policeman's bullet and Harry gets. So you you know you know that they'll do so it is kind of everything we do now is gonna happen to step back and examine everything. Make sure their observations. Right before the end of locations and do things because even caught up now which is still one of the most dangerous thing to do. Typical and had to be taken. Is there any thing something like this tend to ten. That by different training is training change for officers. Renewed U woody collared on continuing education for current officers. Where you know what you can't even sit new car anymore your head is be in the swivel. Sure I mean the listen to what happens now is the cup being bitten people you know probably people around so your take on the opposite anyway just keep on boulder. If you're with post what you do we and so what you're instantly. Yeah have you back in the ball so that we can come up behind and he misses that mentality that. Right now it's also as a courtesy read eat separately as it was in the Clinton at least so you have that be extremely. Careful bill we. The only escape question about training and and this is always. Puzzled many in a final police officer I wanna see somebody's hands on a traffic stop the entire time. But yet you ask them to get there insurance. Proof registration and license and as result they're gonna have to Ries three genetic car maybe a glove compartment a console etc. I'd be tempted to pull my weapon or at least. I don't know they have mine and I don't care if it's an old man you don't know if he's disturbed an older lady in in terms of profiling I don't think you can. So how do you draw the line between us citizens saying you know what I had pulled over run and a red light and at dumb cop. Pulled a pulled a gun on me or the police officers and looked at person was reaching I couldn't see their hands on mega take a chance. Sure I mean listen there's no rules about when the Pluto has been removed his argument from apple and many. Angst if you feel like Europe like that figures to gut it it's the nature and I think along slightly. What you're doing it because you know most the majority of people which you now. But the Steelers went rapidly it does. And miserably at one point. Public TV that he's one of these new cures company now you can get insurance on on your home. You don't need to have illegally but most of the hour or next please visit it's been. And more disturbing because people can be reached at home in that they go to waste in the title like that idea. And I'm sure many of the police so it is like that idea right. Especially in the dark. Short I mean that you receive something shiny that some ideas in their hand. The right into the satellite. Shoot over to police. That so what do you do on a traffic stop I what I do is eternal light on onions guy inside the vehicle. I've it's at night and just put my hands outside of the collectively officer tells you what to do. Sure that. The optimal way to do it or even just you know you put it at night that you put the lights on your guy he predicted that mr. and so that. Because it was and as well as the that's what's gonna the weapon that done tonight whatever made the opposite. So let the police so you always want people and you don't want the batteries in their pocket you don't want them. Looking at rumbling on the need to see in that case you know in the controlled by them. Just remained. Thank you professor appreciate your time and as a former. Police sergeant for NYPD off you my condolences. You bet professor Joes of Jacqueline retired NYPD sergeant card adjunct professor at John Jay college. A criminal justice and a friend of dollars right now time for debit WL first news for that. We got a Christmas. Kelvin Williams enjoying the holidays and rely happy for the match Jordan Spiegel work and by and self and there and you know while I often talked to him be helped me a tremendous amount prison. Somalia on the subject of dating in high school and coed was awareness thing you know about. Boys and girls gone to school together or when they can't single gender woody Collins and Jordan tells me boys schools. No dirt nets and o's and some little fancier than that but I sense if you had appears to issue a colleague Jordan's widget. Thank you Chris gets calls imminent hear about in a PD and I know you can't get involved in this letting in a car get mart moment just NO PD about police in general hey Lenny good morning aren't evidently well. Opponent our. Point I'll bet or cola mortars or. And eight bit on. The orient all settled back. That Arabs sit ginger and certainly not only we were sold on a place that result you do. There. Yeah Atlanta and act or he'd be still. That track each morning in. Unit. No all we're not there's Debbie still below. There is no respect at all or. Leno and and I I mile mile into and I think about as far as a police officer goes thank you for the call and Merry Christmas are ranked. Tom is that. You think when you pulled over and and first off like an Italian I'm pro police I know they're bad police officers that the majority of and people saying Antoinette frank I get that but the majority of them. All across the nation I think of people just wanna protect and serve and and maintain law and order protect people are really deal and if you disagree I'd love to hear from it. But I think which you have to realize and and I have never. And tunnels or a thousand times. I'd never been pulled over for something I didn't do except for one time and in the offices and you know what you're right it's not illegal to do is look wrong. From one time I was cuffed and stuffed put new cars they were looking for me looking for some when it looked like mean. And then after they realized mistake let me up apologized I get that. And also realize that while. You don't know what the officers thinking of why he pulled you over maybe you deal if you honest with yourself. They don't know who you law. And they don't know if if you or a threat to them they don't know of if you're gonna keep them from going home at night to their family. They have no idea if you got outstanding warrants on him that you know for violence. So I think you need to understand and be a little accepting of how they approach you because they don't know you anymore then you know of them. And terms of people on in New York walking around with signs that say a chanting what do we want did cops. And they refuse to stop even though they're Berrian to officers in and New York. No worse fascinated by this nut job. I don't know where freedom of speech fits in all of this because normally I am an absolutist but. If you are publicly advocating the murder of a law enforcement officer that to me doesn't seem to be protected speech. You can say NY handled I NYPD need to be changed against a NYPD is a bunch of thugs if that's what you think. But Colin for the murder of a police officer don't think that should be legal but we'll see what you think and what our next guest. Sandy Levinson thinks he's a professor of law at the University of Texas colossal. That we come back that it have you. Tommy Tucker trying to. Remember Joe Cocker race. Let us candidate. His songs featuring them on a bomber music. Ending well associated that TV killed one group. I'll go it was a big hit to The Beatles and he covered it and Paul McCartney yes they actually thanked him. Recovering no re doing this song. And it's I get by with a little help from my friends he said one time the news. Because. It was an instrument. And there are people around here David Blake for one. And who use employees were legends and honorable. Where. I. And if you look at this body of work it's amazing. How many songs Mathis yeah Netflix just. His name's Erica. Police officers now in New York to Obama assassinated and hours later. I could have been three of police answer call day in the Bronx somebody's you know windows. Day you know I get on the car we'd do on here and he turns the gun 357 Magnum point blanket them I guess it was a revolver. And pulls trader and nothing happens because he was out of out of bullets. And if your police officer I'd love to hear from me at T six 187 you don't have to give as your real name. And see if you had any experiences with the police. Give me the bill ratio of positive to negative. Because even when I split the back of that car it was a negative. You know as free in Ottawa Bennett Thomas a little freaked out. You probably gonna go to OPP and we'll sort all of this out but at no point did I resisted no point and I screaming get the wrong guy or anything like this. Because I don't think the police officers were doing it on purpose. And I think they were trying to protect somebody and I just looked like that person. That they were trying to protect the public from. And and mind my story about the police officer that. Pull me over for traffic stop if you go to the adult Jason woodland highway they have a shell station and you wanna come to work there's nobody on the road. I pulled Dowd in immediately went net turn lane. The arrow was on and maybe you'd turn and it's not legalism the lights me up in this light blue willow would as a league witness it's not for. Is as well you can't make you turn there and and you ran a red lights and not really did not bulldoze shell station went straight to the turning lane. There's no restriction against a U turn there so I made it. And I don't think it's illegal lizards are turnaround look at an added that musicians and you know what you're right it's not just drive carefully if you would please his. I guess a little bit awkward for him. And I did. And I'll just cause caution yelled this morning is Chris and I we're having a conversation in the newsroom along with mark Menard. I hate this time a year because I don't know if it has to do with the dew point or the temperature or the humidity or all of the above. But yet can't keep you windshield. Clears so you can see. Unless you wanna be miserably hot in the car that to me I think is the only way it'll happen Tim on twin spans morning on DeVon WL. Good morning. The Merry Christmas Ian thanks a collar. Thank you acknowledge they are real quick if it were just so you respect for what we've been in public it's basically right now. Because I can't imagine how low morale is to try to do that early evening and the current political environment that we're living in his partner as an analyst with the bigger theater you know had. They wondered but opted that are actually believe it's mostly Ali and okay. I was that now the bigger one I'm waiting in line at the big events played it yet that. And somebody from the quarter please act like you're running deep background at the last minute. You believe in the middle street battle with what an op assert. But on out. He'd get into the top Indy in the squad car. And you know it and I like the guy in between. Now he's gone belly up in all black art yet it was bad it was and they respect it is like a minute. Eight he was surrounded by courses that squad cars and light it was the but and now. And you know what it would mean outlined you know. Or whatever by picking up on the market did the walk and start rat needed. You know what and it ought to be adopted. Eagle walk in you read that memory stick with now. Again 99% of my theory is always. It those memories that really are. Need data and realize you're in line for concert. I don't think they cared and I know I don't DD Illinois is famous lines you wanna go to. But that's controlling crowds that money on understanding after to take control of a crowd really quickly did anybody jump in now this officer. Did you doubt about it. No no you know it I don't know how. In New Orleans battle I don't think I would want it be that. Indicted him on and ready Comair Christensen. ID 654. When we come back after the news we'll talk to our constitutional law professor about freedom of speech and and I crowd really. March Yemeni ministry being collect protected by police. And a crowd chanting what do we want did cops. 650 for the life. Hello Michael Weldon and traffic. I Tommy Tucker will come back we'll continue to talk about the assassination of two NYPD. Police officers and Brooke protesters march in saying what do we went dead cops both before. And after these police officers were killed in the city said looking hold off on it. And he said no it's their freedom to do it and they continued to do it. Should freedom of speech really cover that. I don't think we'll find out when we come that.
