Getting a lot of textures about the scenario. As it relates Sean Payton a press conference at 1 o'clock we'll carry it live Uga WL. I'm guesses maybe one will probably 110 but two and anyone it is I could be wrong. And no one of the silly yours scenarios I've seen says that Michaels throwing hand is going to coach. The saints in Sean Payton will become the new host. Of the morning Sheila will be called show on in that. Nights ago in my commander's palace. Offered to that because mouthing as Japanese. Would be interesting though. All right mark mean joins us right now professor psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. And covers of the podcast you guys on your hand good morning professor. I don't I'm not. An angry LT at a news survey out and says that some people are very very angry most 54%. Of white Americans say they find themselves. Angry. About the news compared to one a year ago. And black Americans 33% more than the average of respondents averages 49. Black Americans 33 and Latinos 43%. They NL's all get to this before I'd like to talk professor more than half. 54% of white Americans believe the American dream once held true but no longer it goes 39% black. Respondents agree on why are white males so angry. Yeah yeah that's a great question and you know it took to really get at this got to figure out what anger is. Okay so some anger what happens is all of the emotions you experience. Are the result of this motivational system you have in your brain. Communicating with the rest your brain about how things are going and the anger as a kind of been negative feeling which is his motivational systems way of telling you things aren't going so well. It's it's a high energy high Rouse or motion which means your really engaged with the situation. And then on top of that what what's separate anger from things like frustration. It is believed that you can actually do something about it you can actually control something about it and so when people get. Angry it's because they're really engaged in something and they think they can do something about it. So a lot of people who don't get angry at things that are that the that are bothering them. They don't get angry because they feel like they can't do anything about it and so I think you know if you look at white males white males traditionally have been people. Who have a lot of power in the US and can do something about their circumstance and so when things are getting in the way. They get angry. So intuitively it would I would think that you would get angry at things that are out of your control it because you don't think rationally it's an emotional response but that's not what you're telling me. Well you experience some announcements and completely out of your control you and getting frustrated. More than angry right so when you're sitting in traffic. You know you you get the first thing you get is Israel's frustration is nothing you can do and so you directors stole energy and you might yell. But you're not you're not necessarily angry until the point where you feel like there's an action you can take. And then you can spill and to road rage for example and you start pocket at the driver from a view it cursing at them because you shifted from. Accepting there's nothing you can do about it too trying to actually do something about it. So in terms of the American dream. Did he could that be because it that your dream more or with the way you planned your life out. Didn't necessarily turn out that way you know we're about Sean Payton here may be planned on being here totally retired maybe he didn't I don't know. But if that makes you angry is how does the American dream I guess relate to personal plans that people may have hand I would think they're intertwined. Sure absolutely you know we we grow up in particular with a certain beliefs about how life has been ago. And gonna get a job that job is to continue to get better and better for a summer gonna make more more money as we go along. And and that's gonna enable us to support our families and and two and and perhaps that the lifestyle that we want. And so when that plan doesn't work out as you hoped it would. Then then in that case that that's a real source of engagement and and and and that can lead its first system to some frustration. And that the part you find source of that frustration and want act out against it that's the thing that's gonna make you angry. And and you know I mean can you tell professional football coaches of course can't possibly expect to be where there are more than a couple of years social on patent you know maybe. Maybe maybe he's not angry. But in his NH on the average person gone the way the workplace is can anybody really expect. Okay here ran the company XYZ fifty years and nine M I'll watch. And hit. Well you know that's not the way the economy seems to work anymore but I think you know if you look particularly at older. Workers who see who started in the work force with more of believes that their job was going to be stable. I think they have a very different expectation about what the workplace is going to be like than the millennial center in the work place to really do expect that they're gonna have that they're gonna change jobs several times over the course their lives. And as thing about this topic and we decided to do it yesterday. And on the that's a function of income or not or or how you grow up but Ian I grew up rather poor and I don't know than I ever had any plans it's seems as though I just kind of led to what. Life led Meehan and then tried to get by and you know I I got a job now would have wanted for a long long time but I don't know that I necessarily did anything. To get here is that uncommon though doesn't go back to. I expectations. And and man's lows hierarchy of needs where you know you gotta get the basic needs met before he can try to it to do you plan your life found in the NC which you really want. Applied I personally don't think it's a little bit dangerous to plan too much I tell people that that you like only makes sense and you look back on in the forward direction that's pretty chaotic. But but I do think that people. Really in Arctic if you look at the fact that the middle class is really been squeezed in the United States since you have a lot of people again particularly folks who're who're in in gen X which is getting older now on and and the boomers. You know date they grow up middle class and and expected to maintain that when packet squeezed I think that's one of those places were you begin to feel like. Maybe things weren't going as as they should have given the way you grew up. And I think that the that the plans that people make. Are primarily about lifestyle rather than exactly what the career is gonna look like I think most people know there's at least some amount of uncertainty about the way things are. Ago in terms of bomb the floor relate to go in terms of anger. It seems to mean anything has ever done and I was angry never ever worked out in. Does angers serve any useful function and if not won a wonder we get an angry. Well I you know I think anger can serve really useful function in situations in which a physical responses needed. So you know if you think evolution fairly radically if we were faced with a with a real fight on our hands then the kinds of reactions we get did that rush of adrenaline that that real. Rushed to strength. That that would make a lot of sense unfortunately one of the things that happens and anger. Is it narrows your focus and attention on on just the circumstance that you're in right now which again probably a great thing if you try to fight someone or something off. But in in the modern world which isn't released physically dangerous at all and it's that response is and so helpful anymore and and what you want is actually a more measured response where you can release think through things look more carefully. And maybe think a little more before you act so I think to get our modern environment anger tend to get us into trouble far more often than it helps. Yet we need an expert on animal vehicle. Yeah a good day doctor thank you. Arctic some are organized and does answer our department professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin and co host of the podcast you guys on your head. If for example Sean Payton announces today that he's leaving. And taken Drew Brees with him this is just speculation. Nobody knows what's gonna happen yet they could still mean negotiating maybe people want airline drive don't even know was gonna happen yet but as I can get angry. If Sean Payton goes and takes Drew Brees with him. Is that gonna make you angry if Sean leaves and drew stays zag or make you angry. If show on season drew leads is I can make you angry and I can't imagine both of them staying making you angry but it is the nominations and if it applies permutations. On your grown any other question is are you angry. Not not specifically right now is a copy machine jammed but overall would you say you're an angry person or do you know somebody that is. And does it relate to plans in in their life for your life Cohen. Off the track and again and never really did handle plan for life it seems as though. A discount what we're life took me and I'd like to know did you plan your life out or somebody you know and didn't work out that way. Mine were doubted the end. By I didn't really. Plant going get in here reaches actually Hurricane Katrina did dated for me and I feel guilty about that sometimes and take a break come back. Take your phone calls to 601870. On the press conference more inclined do you want she'll want to stay or go. And in some scenarios what these things can happen and I really went talking about this angry thing have you ever. Made a decision while you were angry. That worked out and what is it that makes you angry what do you see on television news or what you see the way is news the news is presented. That makes you angry L doesn't make you happy that. It takes that done anger away or prevent you from being in selling back in a flash Tommy Tucker Davida. You will. Polishing up the old Little League crystal ball and act like saying anything yet. But as I look it's becoming clearer and clearer and clearer and seeing the saints' facility on airline drive. I don't see Jerry Jones there. And I understand why he would be here. To have anything to do with Sean Peyton or drew reasoning and see why he would be here to try to. Take some attention away from that in and put it toward himself directed toward himself because I think. And might be wrong here but I think Jerry Jones likes the attention. Maybe not. But it would seem to me he loves when the media focuses on him so I can't imagine him being in here. And employ another Dallas Cowboys backdrop when he announces that Drew Brees new quarterback of the cowboys. And I would think that if he just wanted to two spirit. And fly Sean Payton the Dallas is quickly as he could he could have done that with a private jet not mark with a Dallas Cowboys star. So I'd be greatly surprised that haven't but look at your crystal ball. And let me know how you see this. Playing and I guess the easy as we're able to get it when you make when you go to bed tonight. Are you going to be taken well Sean Payton still here or when your hand hits and Hillary B sand. Alone. What do we do now. You might be saying you know one. Amen. Good riddance. Knowing what another super horrible I really would like to hear from it. Hammering inherent in the morning your under the W well. I'm doing well makes you angry. I guess mostly. Our government in. The bugging them. There. Rate is dementia and well. About when you watch the news typical news cashes in on you like Scott Kelly that's a lie watch you watch local news also and you find your blood pressure just boiling. It was last time that happened dear member. Yeah look at all. But it is such a marketable thing they're there. They're just trying to make things. Like I guess that was Katrina. Where and they would show and everything was blotted everything you know the city well. Just drug anyway. You are you know makes me angering camera man they have about eight people protesting. And they suited so tight it looks as though a thousand people around there. That's what gets me angry because it's a deliberate attempt it seems like in this league because then if you see a camera from another angle. It's a people jump on camera which hardly means but there was a big protest downtown. But enough that tell me about the saints and what do you think happens when you late year head on that pillows evening hammer. I. You know what. In short date. A big you know on. But if they keep it. You know trying to espionage. And the option. The biggest thing about tree ears which are great public burglary. At the most. Barring injury. You keep continuity as much as possible because demanded broke. Bouncing it this year. I. That. Oh. More move that boring you're gonna get their picture there. May be a war and number two art. Like gruden back in the typical Republican would be occurring. If Jerry you're applying it here and in that out pretty well maybe. That makes me. Got to be okay. He'd he cared he would there where where oh so it could be open. Jerry that it would Jason Garrett. At the end. And it could refresh ET. On our part what the other. That next big thing is you take Carmichael and for a number of coaching jobs. Ricky Wilma would be should be. Eight feet. We're gonna get the issue. We were that you could be a certain approach. That continuity. Moving because our game and island it and that the trip coordinator. Starting role better I don't know what those guys are. With drew breeze you're keeping them. That community and smooth as could be Carmichael steelworker whipping. Much like he would do it. Sean Payton should Carmichael and and with my new. The lady. He was a former. Coach Odom back the end you know. Yet but the question hammer that I need an answer for is when when that hammer hits the pillow tonight. He Sean Payton still gonna be the coach of the saints you got to pick one. I think he's on I think there's there's been too much speculation. There. They know we're coming out of airline. Everything. And mom. In that dealt we've been having conversations. It was very just jumped into the bargain to get to go to orange order they'll make it. He maybe trying to get in the. Interesting we'll see hammer I'm glad you called the call back call back tomorrow on mostly nine turns out. He had a good day. Well now I think I needed I've never gone but maybe I should go thank you hammer. You're appreciate cult T 60187. Easily tax stand. It's amazing the way anger works because a lot of times. Couples fight over the smallest. Things put in a trash can liner properly in that they can. Wouldn't dishes in the dishwashers setter but the really big consequential things they'll sit around and discuss like adults. Well Bullard an anti though that I don't think we need that tell me. I I asked the new answers might fall tell me what do you think's gone off the Jerry Jones the saints you Sean Payton etc. Well you know oh they would blame Jerry Jones. Get together latency and you know what it involved. And Jerry and the other day here if they're going nowhere and that to occur and so meets at the event. At the very. If it giant certain vault. That ball require very prohibit health insurance company line about the price and that's the divisional rivals the problem. It's urging him appeared to Portland for an evening and go out. And that he should immediately and a time to the press to go and interview him and ask him hey are you is that or shall I. You don't want the job of a pitcher John. And maybe or the giants in terms of draft picks. Chart next may be no doubt that those involved an adult speculation. That it that there lately what's there rather the price the divisional rival. You know and probably it's a favorite here insurance rate. Her own little let me tell you might be tougher than a cheap steak but I also think you're smarter than any two for one cool lawn. There are. Now I know I know to set legislated cheese stake I know you said have a good day Tebow and a brief comment that but let me ask you this. If you were under water. Would you really care about the show on patent thing. If you in your house and all your possessions onto while courts and next. That's why we're gonna go to Carlton dupers yo right now our friend he used immediately. Country basin foundation. And that is ahead of the causeway commission. Organization I don't know what it is. In the reason want to have him on was because you with the river in high. It appears as though openings spillway is on the rise in. He used to deal with that no disrespect to the current him the Pontchartrain basin foundation but since he is also on all civilian charge of the causeway. I don't know if there's a possibility of any debris coming through and and cause in trouble and only in the cause of it whatever we welcome now finally Carlton do for joke in general manager of the cause we commissioner happy new year my friend. Afternoon your comment premature wrap it micron Alec could. An epic and very early Merry Christmas it is did it or something you have sort again I tell me about the and slippers off and went into flat footed on this and understand soul. Carol indeed seventeen foot seeing and how all the flood level rivers fifty feet and how to how do you do this would result litany. The fact that the short story and their police will be if we go further north elevation to increase. And I doubt here in Dubai that felt the bottom of the build up the whole country where more relative sea level so. Yeah I'll bet no particularly good areas of my of Missouri college stuff he got higher elevations and that's just the different slope on the river the river actually is slow to it is so extremely will be in the 40s50s. Down here the flood stage in New Orleans is seventeen. And it eventually won new reward it's up to the gulf could be almost at sea level. And and Carl tonight you know on Leno likes to your own horn but just for his people milieu lark. What it would be an engineering hydrology. Our top alcohol I am out of a guy that's becoming difficult for a contract none and you've got a degree I wouldn't trade and degrees in engineering from way back when an electrical outlet with. A focus on until and Barea yes yes so let's get to the opening spillway. How likely is that to happen and what effect from him on. Actually I was speaking with guys with a core and and you yes yes yesterday it's gonna happen. It's we've got the tremendous moderate rain up forever and everything on here it's probably gonna happen Saturday. It will be even if from my in my opinion can be a major opening. It may be all the praise the flow rate could be up from the actual flow rate at this spill ways. In concept that the 250000. Cubic feet per second which is I mean that's a the torrent of war going through. It could actually get higher than that depending on that the stages in the river to flow rate the river. The impacts on the Laker going to be usually can't interpret right now because of all of the wins the we're gonna get apology coal fresh water nutrient lake water. Going into the lake pretty good that that counts and not being mean. Said that they a missed opportunity Communist which is I mean it's so disappointing to many of us is every time. There's a flood in the river flood stage in the river it's loaded not only with a nutrient that is bloody with the sentiment to settlements it built to hold off on coast. And every time Billick right now we can get those sentiments in the adjacent wetlands like video broad slut wetlands immediately to the east of the spill Weydert of the west of it. Then that would be tremendous enhancements for coastal restoration and all the efforts to try to save the coast street further downstream but. That's some things were missing with with particular this event than any other flood event and if you look at ethnic particularly like the tenth that the eleventh opening of the spill way in the thirties and I think it may be becoming a little more. It. What they concerning something we need to watch is that the last decade we've probably head. This tiny seven. I think they'll wait eleven. And now this year that we've had four openings in an electric reopening of the decade which is that seems to be happening more more frequently with. In the short story is too late to get brown on the positive side some of these settlements will be washed back into the adjacent wetlands. There will be more nutrients in the lake the lake critical right now probably about sixty degrees Fahrenheit in the potential for you Al you've listed zones that that's what can happen this time of the year can happen in the spring we may have the potential. Well about the effect on Franzen. And and it's pretty good case and so. There will be everything that's. Any kind of marine species could be pushed out toward the gulf. Then there will be impacts on that and for per probably several months into the spring until we get some storm systems and in the late you know culturally but it's in beta title passes to the east and west and all the rivers and I'm nor sure cynical take a couple months after the incident closest. To get back the salinity kind of back to normal in the and they he's a fish populations to. And the like will this is a natural currency it is. That there again the thing I guess it's frustrating to many services. Every time we hear of these events this is the kind of stuff that. Many cannot buy we talked about spending hundreds of millions billions of dollars and coastal restoration. This is nature trying to say the coast and that's the kind of towns which we should really be capitalizing. On getting these high. Levels of sentiment back into the coastal area before we elect you were talking about sick out of sight and that's happening each and every day would subside. I like about a quick note about debris and then we're ACLU and causeway. We're gonna buy the causeway from bus minutes it's split it's not going anywhere. Are there will be a lot of whatever and go away it's not tied down there will probably end up in the like and whether that's day old debris law exact kind of stuff far alligators. The book and nothing else. Bilbray will probably see more. Reptiles along the the shoreline in Jefferson parishes. And maybe further east into a New Orleans that's that we've seen that the past. It's not going to be liking the scene alligator retreat cedar anything like that but there'll probably be at least some that they get washed further further at least the normal will they be bigger than three feet. It's maybe a had been. And like getting anything in nature if he's he's accepting that looks it looks like usual. Dave peck Buick but don't go up there are trying to play it. No one thing I want to ask you to it and I believe I remember you telling me this owing to the power of nature yes sir did we have a hurricane or tropical storm not too long ago that you said. Pretty much flushed all of that out of the leak in one or two days. That was after oh golly if is probably one of the events would have been Kuwait when something like that Padilla it turned around and that we had a lot of Rick Warren here with that that was the base's post-Katrina would look like we're having storms every other week at them. It did literally turned the lake around that's similar this stuff that John Lopez his crew are doing right now in the search modeling Lake Pontchartrain Dominic. They've got some some work that choose directly what happens when we get storms. Whether it's east of the lesser of late it's not so much of war well there's a tremendous surge tickets pushed into the go to lake it's so big. You always skip different storms coming from the there on the sides destiny sentencing me to get the surge buildup on the southwest quadrant of the lake and on the south sure. And is this is the storm passes Slidell and its slam because the lake actually did the tilting isn't the more common term dollar war gets pushed. You know very stretched by the effort over toward Slidell Carlton. Get a she wrote could take all right good now no way to get a general query about the other spillway is very early ports open. Spring saw whatever happens up north isn't likely to stay open for much longer time then and hasn't that sort of. I think we're gonna see a good duration and that's sort of think that the big question is probably be close I would think it may be 34 weeks is just a guess on my part. But there's potential for another thought a lot of rain could open it up again next spring which would be more concern. Appreciate your time in your knowledge Carl thank you likely to say thank you use well back in a pledge that W. You know Carlson Tony that's the first time about. I guess that's the results of one tropical storm hurricane it was a long time and on his right it was a period where we seem like we had won every week. To to think of the awesome power of nature that with the opening in the spillway in all the fresh water that goes in the lake that was completely flushed out. In a manner like 2436. Hours. I'm all right so 260187. And we got a minute or two if you wanna weigh in on Sean Payton the main thing you need to remembers today. At 1 o'clock remembering news' Sean patrons press conference. But before that it noon Garland will give his expert analysis. On coaching in the NFL. On the new new ways of offense on defense of schemes that will. Is there right Garland I think via this guy advises deacon body. On what it is that they should talk about he was the one that trained team a bear to play offensive line. But just so deacon Bobby can learn something they are going to be here with Garland at noon. So he's gonna wrap him he'll get them all coached up. And at noon seriously Deke Bellavia T about a bear going to be here with. Garland from noon until one. And then of course wanted to ideas we'll find out coach Payton stay or will he go. And what you think he's gonna do and what you want him to do that's today at noon followed by Sean Payton is press conference at one. And a flagship station of pure and you'll and saints WWL I would advise. You to text sports. To WW 287. And be the first to know. Especially not to be near radio what happens with Sean Payton text and battery supplies we never charge. And my prediction here. Is that. As we reconvene tomorrow morning. At 6 o'clock Sean Payton wheels deal be the head coach of the new wall and saints I predict he is not. Going anywhere he remains a coach. We'll stay Garland next evidently well.
