All hello there. Welcome and hope you enjoyed the baseball game and I hope by you'll enjoy the next three hours as we talk about what I think of a may be wrong about this but I'm not wrong as far as I'm concerned. The number one pleasure in New Orleans it's eating. Eating and everything that goes with the eating drinking would be one thing and shopping for your food it's a big big well processed EC says it has become much more important than it was. Where and let's say I was in my twenties. Back then we can you went to the supermarket you got what they had in that switch ahead. Now this all integrating greedy and sent there to be chosen from and a lot of people writing cookbooks to. Helped fuel. Do all that stuff better and on top of all that I'd like to think where up on top of it is this program. In its thirtieth year but twenty night we're almost almost thirty. And talking but eating and drinking your way through the city and we would really love to hear from you about that. Up please note. If you ever have a thought that you have something that was uninteresting to you that happen and arrest and or something that you cook and it came out really great really awful or whatever. And leaving noteworthy TU. Probably no worthy of me and everybody listening to us because we're all out there trying to find better food. My definition of a gourmet is somebody who always looking for better food that he's already. And if you do that ever. Europe gore makes a line that celebrated in the enjoyed. That's all we talked about here and we love to hear commute to 601872601870. And at the beginning of the program always coming out of a baseball game. We. You we you have plenty room to get in its news you'll you'll get in right ways I would love to hear from you but that or anything else. Let's see what is going on Tuesday last evening. Was the royal street stroll this is one of the events in the New Orleans wine and food experience. That started on Thursday night with those dinners all around the city. And then now yesterday with the royal streets all the way that works is that they cordoned off to. Ends of of royal street one of them Red Cross from the Molly on hotel in the and one in the 800 block that's right behind Saint Louis cathedral. They shut the hole. Avenue down there and the galleries. And art. Art. A studios. And the antique stores and all of that of which royal street has quite a few. They become hosts to. The the whole thing there this whole. Serving of food and wine a part of the new ones wine and food experience. And some of these. The galleries actually have the food inside their galleries are you come in and look at our new whatever else in the and the antiques do so it's a lot of fun. Although. My wife and I we are of one mind about this we we got the jump on it as soon as they opened up the the door. Well there was no door but as soon as soon as they opened up. Access to royal street we went from one into the other and back again. And one of us had food from two vendors. And by the way this is all pretty in your Europe you're ticket prices includes all the food you want all the all the one you want on. Why is limited of for me I ate something from one. Place that's it that's all I could find. And my wife had two different ones. And there was one particular Booth right in the middle of royal street. That was being operated by faux go to chow this a set. A Brazilian style steak house that's in the JW Marriott hotel. It's it's a much better place than I would have given it credit for before I bid we've been there at 34 times and we really impressed by. But this outfit was sold. Thoroughly. Edible. That everybody who was at the royal street stroller it's certainly seemed that way aways in line standing in line a long line. To get at the folk go to chalice food. And in a cynical sort of way I was thinking you know. It may be because that's almost all of that we've run into is that. So I'm wondering you know well maybe I missed something I'm unwilling to believe that. But if you're at the royal street stroll yesterday to your view wanted to if you if you went to that I'd I'd like to be very interested in hearing what you thought about. 20601870. Let's see who's joining us over here on the green phone this is. Juiced that I just. Christian and I guess in her. They are welcome to our show. What say what you got bless your heart and he the only person ever probably more game like that would at. Our horse that had you don't know that half of it I'm. Early early in my career back in the 1980s. Late night nine this was the late 1970s tournaments. In the late 1970s. I used to do a show from 8 PM until midnight. And our station carried the saint. A missing the Houston Astros. One even rival team. And I hit the follow that usually most nights it was around 1030 quarter to eleven ice still say blood most difficult job. In all of our talk radio is coming back behind that if the. That's what's. This is truly nobody. In thirty years and you'll chose. Them wreckage on well like fooled the bite. A quick question. Mike Herbert were. Probably we. Would. Well you know that's to say that. Is kind of the same thing as saying you know what I love I love to drink wine. Because there's so many Japanese out there. It it's it's. Reason for existing is that it was the leading grape and still is the leading grape in Bordeaux in France we set the standard for that. And so most of the happening so meals that you run into. Around Tampa at almost any price point you can feel the influence of friends coming in there and kind to Goosen and up. I see a different it's. Like a light weight at all like that. War. Like matters column sure why it's another great I'm not only beach and a little cameras. With that. Like you forget that. Like. Noticed there. Were like. It was neat. And I don't eat on the front. And burst open. Well it's gonna happen always wanted to just go ahead. And I don't rate one record want to gamble were white and so almost it would cavernous ambulance is that okay. Or it's okay where may I mean whenever you like is what is the best thing I've eight. I've I've made complete agreement with anyone declaring his tastes and go onto them all the time why not. Why not that I heard that we're cattle were pulled to basic team owners Joseph apt that baseball game and well yeah let me Tom there's more stood. Thank thank you very much it's the food show. And Lucy who's over here on the greens on this is jaw. Charles. There. It's find this frog hair and we split three ways to. All right our armed pollen and beards so. Here at the new year. Live without. Are you well I'm program review. Of our area. And Weldon. Yeah we went area or. The proposed. Are you well. It. Oh. Yeah. Release of the decade low. Oh yeah news you want to work out. He'd made it they. And actually shop and actually. But right now. What color it's cute quote. Were. Mind. Problem. She did it all he really memorable moment. Wondered did you ever call and months. So. Just. Yeah Bartow. Excellent excellent night in the mood would wonder ruler in order. Especially. Me you. That was sort of four court NATO. And yeah and China sent. In. Where. All. The via. Rubio. You every day. Well I mean is science sounds like a dynamite dinner but did there's something that I I need to ask you about this. Did she say yes. You are important college shouldn't say it was our and our hesitation at all. Program here that she's saying yes I'll wait a minute yeah yeah yes. I. I. Hello it's the food show. I'm Tom Fitzmorris sweet talk about the rest unseen that's just below one in one area that where interest in. We talk about cooking at home whatever you're trying to. There are lots of people listening to us who know a lot about well lot of recipes so we wind up getting very very good advice around here. 20601870. Is our telephone number 260187. Me. Wine and food experience. Goes on today they let's seat today they were doing I think seminars today in the first half of the day at. 6 PM there's going to be the grand tasting. And in doing this they have a big auditorium sides and it was in fact one year they use the superdome finesse. And they have chefs or preparing three or four of their appetizers usually it's appetizer size stuff so but sometimes they get into. Knows the rack of lamb and you know heavy duty things they just cut it up a little. And they presented with matching lines. And all of this is on. The basis of if you have something during the event that you really like for goodness sake go get some are of and it's it's all right it's completely free. Once you pay your price to get in I mean once you're in you have to pay to get him I think it's a hundred and wanna say 175. That might be a little little more little less than. It's what it's beep. Yeah well I it is but they do what they fill the house every year. And a lot of variety you'll you'll takes all kinds of different items there it's not. Focus on one thing in particular it isn't even really focused on New Orleans cooking although this a lot of that there. So that starts at 6 o'clock I'm pretty sure you can get tickets. I'm not positive though. I think it can be done at NO WFE. Dot com. NO WFE dot com and Alfie as we'd like caller NO WFE. Dot com New Orleans food all wine and food experiences with that means. And a lot of fun to be had at that what happens to me is this if you CB by the way. I would be very flattered if you came over and said call. I even if you don't know me and even if it looks like I'm. I'm busy. Go ahead and do it because as one of the reasons. They have that is so people can meet one another and talk to one another but what they've been cooking and what they've been eating with good restaurants there are it's good. Good gossip area but I tell you this truly. Europe pecking order on that activity should be. The first thing you do is you'll hunt around for some food and some wine and then you come over to see me if you want. And the reason I put it in that order instead of saying hello to me first and then. Going to give you food later is that it delays the time from when you get there until way and you actually are eating which is a whole lot. More interest in them listening to me talk about it and the other thing that I would recommend to add that to you is four by why. I is that. IE. Eight. And sometimes I've gone to these events and I wind up talking to people for an hour before actually get anything to eat or drink so. Don't feel sorry for because side I have a wonderful life but that's. A UV he needs just think about it you know and then you you wouldn't wanna see mean we just. Get blown away by the winter anything which you. I hope that 260. Our 187 or use our telephone number we are here all the way to 6 o'clock today. No food show tomorrow unfortunately. And also none on. Monday which is Memorial Day so he 22 days off the show is on seven days a week now did you know that. She only program of its kind anywhere in America. 260187. Car right now you'll get right in the C when most of when it. A went to the one of the of facets of the New Orleans won in food experience. Is an event that they called the Vince near dinners are events near VI ENT and ER. Event there is someone who is engaged in the wine business. At some level the could be almost anything he could be the guy who picks the grapes he could be that guy. Who designs the label who would does all the wholesaling. And retail stores all of those people. Our vintners so I don't know where they got that name is a title but I think it's a perfect title for concede they are always pretty heavy on the lines. The one I went to was over that what you can call Tommy's bistro. Or you can call it. Tomas. Bistro. Or you can call it notch. This of their all the same place it's the it's the wine bar that Tommy and try to used to run in coordination with news. With his main restaurant called Tommy's cuisine it's on chopper to a street moralists across the street from animals. It's terrific place to eat and it was a going down the list of all of the vent new dinners couple nights ago Kazaa had made a reservation January yet I do that every year I just. Call around until I find one that sounds like they could use a few more people and that's when I go to. So IE I looked at their menu and I saw. That first of all that the food sounded really good seuss' it's pretty straightforward assortment of things but very very and it was good in the long run. But the winds were even more interesting to me because they came from an area. In Italy called free usually FR IE UL a lie for you Lee. Is in the north easternmost part of Italy it's right up against Croatia. And Slovenia. And it is I just a lovely. Lovely. Area. But nobody knows of bodies tell people freely where is free only in the world well I don't think many people would guess that it's a talent. But it is a part of Italy it's a lot different from the most most of the rest of it. And have been there a couple times before and I really loved that so as a very happy to see that they were using the truly rule on how they pronounces. Free you'll yen at Friel Lee. 80 it's something IP for a week for you Lee winds anyways yeah they're real good and this dinner prove that it was so wonderful night the only problem with that is that more people wanted to go. All its states almost knew this time more people wanted to go to than they had space for a wind up having about forty people. Well. We're here we have a way a newscast from CBS. And then will be back with more of the Pucillo after only one minute so stay tuned thank you yet the food show and we of people waiting for us it's such Kathy I think is what this says Kathy. Yeah welcome to show thank you actually column couple 23 weeks I ask you about Michael's restaurant in Slidell. We did and kind it would under we'll. Call it Alec which I had no clue and. Yeah you could tell you it's it's on far enough away from the highway that it doesn't look like that could possibly be a restaurant but it is. Exactly. Are recommended and we are. Actually actually what did you what I. All one of the best things you already. Operation should elevate. And that all that. With the Bluetooth. They. May take and it would reduce. Them. Cherry pop right yeah that's all you wouldn't think labor and. It doesn't sound right but that's a great dish. I'll win anyway I want to report back that I went just been busy thank you. Well thank you for calling so yeah I've over the restaurant she's talking about his Michaels I'll tell you more about Michael's 'cause it's interesting and since it's been brought up. Let's see over here is once again I cannot see what is open head Jane. Is that right. Well welcome to our show you don't I don't I don't believe we meet enough people whose name is Jane. Not anymore yeah. Yeah but you feel comfortable with the don't. Yeah good. That you weren't expecting this to earn couples shot. I'm calling. My. Line and actually right now and we want a place where we went to lunch tomorrow. That would that be I have what that preclude what. Yeah how old are the odds are. 89 at fifteen that's not too bad the fifteen year old can take their little right. Out. In an early on and on and not formal. And quite what we can go. We're planning to get art like battery guys may be around. So you are doing this when exactly. What they're tomorrow what time a day. Lunch okay. Yeah the first place I would a that I would think about. Is a cafe beat. And it's odd because tomorrow is up wet tomorrow Sunday is. Yeah and it was just did did I ask you whether it's dinner or lunch. You said one trade. Well yeah cafe B would be a good win because they do a brunch menu but brunch brunch menu is a lunch menu with a cup lagged issues on it I mean nets but this. Literally add up to something else. Oh OK all right fair enough have you been to Porter and Luke. Okay all right. We've we're running out of Metairie road possibility there aren't a lot of them beauties setting it. Yeah. Okay well ya so let's let's escape Metairie road and. Glitzy on. At lunchtime that's that's the problem lunchtime on a Sunday. It is difficult. He ends especially so in Metairie. Can I drag you into town and and how about Ralph's on the part. The great part about that is that the city's city park is right across streets of the kids can go over there and swing on the swings and all that stuff before or after. And it's a beautiful Rezko was very very good food. Yeah so that's that's one that comes to mind but mine also on this a French bistro and him mow we eat so much French food in New Orleans that that doesn't make it really stand outlawed. A but cafe degas. This also is fairly close to. Two city park excuse me it's on esplanade avenue. About three blocks from city park. And they know they have always some good grilled finished reduced little steak things they do omelets and quiche is and a a good variety and if you wanna hamburger you can get that too. So it's a few of the also this one I hesitate to tell you about. Because it's so busy that you might have to wait awhile for table but Haiti's. On the corner of Tel LaMarcus and B and bills street poet actually if the appeals. It's just off canal street in mid city. Packed house it's got everything you can imagine from a New Orleans neighborhood restaurant from. Oysters on the half shell to pizza and burgers and port boys in red beans and rice and and all that it's really good I think it's. Probably the best neighborhood style restaurants it. Well thank you all luck and let me know how that goes. Thank you. Thanks for calling Zia it's the coach showed 260187. Is our telephone number our program today is sponsored by parade ends or voice. They are closed on Sunday parade and so I won't recommend that tour but back on Monday doing lunch. And then on Tuesday there during lunch and dinner and the regrets how it goes the rest of the week until you get to this Sunday when there's never anything. Up parental four boys started in 1925. Excuse me 1975. And today. Right off the bat established themselves as place that was two and pour voice and witches the classic old style way which is. To actually bring in the big hunches of beef. And cook it from scratch. In the method that takes hours and hours and hours of cooking and from the juices you get out of that in the stock that you get out of that. You reduce it down and you make your roast beef gravy which of course is essential when you're talking about a poor boy. And by the end of the process. You've got it and it's done right and done well and enjoyable week. And they are there at doing that every single day along with a big menu of a lot of different platters that you Italian platters have you seafood platters of really really quite a lot. More than you'd think to look at the building. There's a second location in Kenner now it's on west esplanade about three blocks from Williams boulevard in this sort of pink orange. Stucco building that's kind of cool actually ethnic. And it's transport voice PAR or a an apostrophe S it ought to BP AR or YA and but it's debts in Europe Europe our eyes you got. 260. 187 me. Coalition Telus where have you been anywhere you've been eating lately three calls ago lady called in and said that I advised her to go. To Michael's. In Slidell. And I did do that. And head of often Allen said the that's the best restaurant in Slidell. Depends on what you catch me and how long it's been since the last time I was there. But it's a it has pretty solid there's no question about that and it's set back from highway eleven it's in that section of highway eleven. Between the spot where the trees stop and if they do you get to Lake Pontchartrain you know where that that area there. It's across the highway from car drive which only seemed to me you very ironic addressing him on car drive. But anyway it's in league just across the street but you don't see it immediately because it's set back a good ways and so it's a big parking lot with that is. And you get in there make a reservation because it's very popular. And their excellent. And all the baked oyster dishes they do like three of four different versions of that. They are great with things like troop rumble lied. Crawfish dishes and it's really good soups. Excellent steaks done in unusual ways and but also a lot of seafood social crabs and whole range of it. And the music is on most evenings. Provided. By a guy who has been referred to me on a number of occasions as the man who taught everybody in New Orleans how to play the get tar. Hank Mickey is is the senate. I think that's. And Obama won a talent disguise he plays all night long never seems to take a break. And it's the kind of music you hope you run into when you run into music in harassment because most of the time it's too loud this isn't this is just right. So all of this is that Michael's in Slidell on highway eleven about a half a mile from the old. May street bridge that goes over to New Orleans. And I you'll like it it's a great date place. I'm always looking for great date places in case my wife will ever agree to taking a date with me again. 260636. Say oh I blew it would glitzy we only went 41 minutes the sorry. You see I'm on a different station the rest of the week Monday through Friday has a different phone number and my brain is. Tooled to putting out that number that I give you the wrong one here the right one here is 260187. Weeks are not that. We'd love to hear from you and please if you have something you want to bring up. And you think it's might be to stoop letter to trivial or something like that. Please forget that and just call because I'm not kidding is the best phone calls we ever get on our program. Our calls that people tell me are stupid questions they never ever actually are they're always great questions. And I wish more people would ask stupid questions in quotes there will comeback but more of the food show in a moment but first please this at Ben Ben welcome the roadshow. I get there may. Are rare Saturday it would not why. Early just I know the feeling. And how does one Arnold would you recommend or. All played in that. What an Italian. Where would be out war. And what we Ares I knew what pointless the city or town. Where all camera where we've we've got hurt oh well oh. You are an item amend give you a sneaky answer to this and what time we illegal. Our part we got our our might be about. All perfect perfect. Go to gala towards. Good outlet or portrait there. But it's only what's in the news for a first block of the corner. But T it's easy enough to get to it it it's first blog second block suburban street. It is an absolute classic of a restaurant and their business at dinner. Is less than what they do at lunch it seems to me most of the time that is true went on and on weekends. On weekends they you can just about always just walk right in. Without reservation or anything else they don't take reservations for the ground floor anyway so. You get in there it's a great assortment of local fish were getting a lot of real nice a seafood right now in particular but they do steaks and lamb chops and all that. And the prices are affordable and it has its own special little and a miniature party going on all the time to a wonderful restaurant. Mean what are still thank you got it back. You know let me know how that goes after you do it and and glitzy over here is Griff. Griff welcome to the food show. It I'm doing great welcome to show what's going on. I don't mind I can't seem to look like. Oh I'm sorry you have to be put to use it to. Nobody. Would be beat me that we should acknowledge that. I don't Leo. So you are. Out of you mean now alive what you know. And back and I didn't play. And two hours and neglected to gamble on them. And and who knows that would be. Late. Yeah it would surprise me all right. But but if you like it you'll like it you know there are some people who just get such a charge and eating from a bit of faith that it makes up for the fact that it's not very good. Right about global. Property. I mean now really. Yeah I couldn't believe. What which one is this this as a bunch of casinos. Good. You are. Owner. Chip. All the treasure chest okay. Yeah but so you use that's just treasure chests you would recommend them for their birthday. Yeah well well. They're not noted that Maine and. Well only gambling is a bad deal but but eating out but you know I'll wind up. And the Hamachi gambler to sit on a watch. That's that's what I do that every you know way and when my wife for anywhere you know everybody ignores me in and every and she rules the roost. It's just the way that I have made you know. So they're I mean but I usually met their big guys and target them out. But you a lot of good. Oh yeah I'm always happy to see that somebody found a good restaurant somewhere with thanks for calling. Random luck on. Are you back CO later it's of food show. Atop its Morrissey and now who's this or is that anybody did I hit the wrong one I hit the wrong one that voices over on the green phone. Danny Danny welcome. Any you. What what what did I do here okay I'm sorry area pushed the wrong but. It happens to 601870. Episode number and Danny EU there. Yet here come on. The court record cooking wanna go compete in the and problem congress wanted to do you. Well IE view Yousef that little bit already red wine that's for starters I I've never seen him beef in your own made with though white wine. But is it might be good follow but I just never seen it that way you want to use our O line. That has some guts to so I would probably not use a pinot noir because you know analyst and to be on the light side. But a cabernet or a Merrill low or maybe even better than that an Italian line. Would be a good thing to make that without them thinking about one in particular. It's DO currently harvest. Wine grows up in the northern part of Italy but are. That's not a critical thing really I wouldn't spend a lot of money on that bottle either because when you bring wind up to a boil in the skillet you're losing a lot of the a finer points of its flavor by it it does contribute a lot to the dish and so that's why it's essential but you wind up reducing it down by by. Two thirds or more sometimes. And that's the odd cited in this area have to take a break but if you hang on and I will return and we will discuss this a mark it's the food show but now police this. Nine. Hey we will be back with more of the food show after a break for some news in a few other things I hope you'll stay tune it's always fun to be here with you talking about they eat seen around town I'm Tom Fitzmorris here on WWL radio New Orleans and WWL FM HD one and ten are New Orleans the news is next from CBS that Columbia broadcasting system.
