Well there it's nice to be here we view every Saturday afternoon and sit down and start talking about those of the food scene around our city it's always hop and is in the the oyster festival. Looks like they might skate by there was. An 80% chance of rain earlier today but then now we hear they're going ahead with that anyway and they don't expect it's gonna rain all day we might get lucky with that hopes so. This I'd be there oysters are my favorite food I mean I make no bones about it. Mainly because oysters don't have phones that have at it anyway we'd love to hear from you but them. Whatever you been eating lately in whatever you've enjoyed in what you haven't enjoyed the you know that always happens it's always that possibility. Whether you go to a restaurant or whether you go are at home and something you cooked or mute may be your mother or your husband or whoever's in the kitchen today. And you disapprove of what landed in front of view. Or you'll love it either way we'd love to hear from you by your stories about cooking about restaurants. And I think if it should be noted. That among the things that you can talk about in New Orleans that people do talk about a lot. Food is witty way up at the top. And and you think about it. It's it's more interest thing. Then let's say politics. You know most politics is just deadly boring you know it's the people fighting. Half the time and the other half the time of saying things that you can understand. And so that you know that's that that's certainly not very high up the list sports you know a certain time of year it takes a focus but to really it never drips of the subject of food never drifts of far below that. And it's it's more interesting and you know what at giving another example here. There are no statues. As far as I note to any chef. In this city. And there's dare I've never seen. But statue. Honoring a restaurant. Either. So. You know in. The this tells us that. We can talk about this wonderful subject of dining in a way that only we get a chance to do it because this is the only city likeness. And and it's as much fun as anything I saw a guy once I've told this story a million times but I always think of it comes to town he's a hot shot sales kind of guy. And he starts making appointments with all of his potential clients. And he goes out to lunch with them one after another. And at the end of it he told me as I was working in the same newspaper. He told me. That he just doesn't understand the world and people because she'd take a month for a business lunch. They don't talk about this since they don't talk about sports that don't talk about politics all they ever talk about his food and they're eating it as we do so. And I told him and the problem with that is. And he just shook his head didn't. But we got him sooner or later he has he became a foudy. I'm I'm I'm proud to say that I had nothing to do it but but he figured it out after one or number is 260187. And if you had anything to goodly good to eat lately calling and tell me about it 260630. Excuse me to a 60187. And we'd love to hear from you and I I police say this all the time in one of these days maybe you'll believe me. That if you have a question or a comment. That the strikes you personally is maybe something a little stupid or or trivial. Or are laughable that that you wouldn't know the answer to it and and for that reason you won't call our show. Because you're you're frankly the possibility of being a little embarrassed might might cross your mind. Please forget about all of that just pushing off your brain. Are we all the years we've been doing this program I think we've had a total of maybe two. Questions that really were stupid and and the the amazing thing is that the the people who ask them. They thought they were asking something very intelligent so if you if you think you have a stupid question chances are it's exactly the opposite. It's really interest to us so we'd love to hear from you buy anything. And don't call us up to 601870. Let's see what else do we have talked about just beginning here while we're waiting for everybody to find a nice soft share. Last night my wife and I news she was on the wrong. On South Shore I was on the North Shore who we play that game all the time. Where did we wanna go for dinner week we threw out a couple of things and we were thinking you know we will go there but it was a restaurant we go to pretty often. And a guy I did I just had a flash as it now let's go to del Puerto. Tell port to which he said I could do del port. And makes it good I can do Dell Portillo to tell port though. Is an Italian investment right in the middle of Covington. Tonight the great old building right across the street from another great old building it's news downtown. Covington is is really. Cute and fine and a great place to hang out even and they do all kinds of he financier. It's always Lakeland on there. Anyway this this restaurant is an Italian harassment but it's but not in New Orleans are tallied it's kind of Tuscan style. Like center of Italy. And notes something a lot of other restaurant to pick up on two. And but do we both really liked that style. So we were in the air we started off with a big platter of how antipasto. Or or so gloomy as it's always is sometimes called. And several different kinds of cured and smoked meats and sausages and and vegetables that'd marinade it and that he would Ailes was on there. There were. Some a variety of vegetables actually that had been treated a bunch of different ways. And the cheeses as well and we just sat there and nibbling away at that with a glass of wine. Took up about an hour just to do that but. When you with good company. So how could you not love it so we did it all of that and we had a second courts. They have tortellini pasta tortellini our little tiny ravioli. But may be the size of a quarter. Stopped usually would she sometimes with other things this was with cheese and herbs and a buttery kind of solace with some parmesan cheese over the top. And it was just great week we've got one order and split it two ways in it was enough relieved that we had both of them. And then they have this special my wife by as I was finished eating. And there was a special actually it's on the menu I asked about it and they who waitress seemed to think it was pretty good so I got it. Half the chicken roasted chicken. And the sauce was primarily this dark brown sauce. That they said was a good game. A stock reduction which sounded good to me in and so I ordered them to win it wound up by that point it was much too much food. But it was really really good and I might once again. And moved to say this sentence. Dell port though is the best. Italian restaurant in the entire new voluntary. I've I wish it weren't in Covington so I could get will know you might be listening to be just by an anywhere on this station. We have a couple calls though you know look people showed up I love it ought Tommy hang on a second we have a lady. Who's ahead who's actually behind you but though we you know we have we do ladies first rocket Barbara. Barbara are you there. Michael come on me and I can hear you now. Up. All oh we do have one that we're working on its Alina that's going to be on the North Shore the lake house with doing that sometime soon but I don't have a date. And then at this month I'm taking off on a two week vacation. And by we won't be doing it then but yeah I think we have one more schedule in and July 2. And then I will put my my what the to the gas. And and try to get a few more of the mud that kind of reluctant but we've you know we've we've been through this whole thing with the HD radio and all that. Huge amount in my time and everybody else too so. But. A lady who was there who told me this last night. Oh last night it was a lady who walked up to me in the restaurant and told me exactly what you just all of and that was a Yugo right. On I'm on your side we can do more you Clinton's I'm terribly sorry Barbara. I don't. Well. And he could make your aim a little bit closer and you want us. Later. By. Its Puccio. She's an. Thank you. I actually have a question about chicken I would encourage wanna go out. I want chicken egg omelet and ancient you know there. I was militia leader and dot net. Duplicate Earl. Oh I absolutely do and inspect its the same family of the guy who did it and now. It's our most. Yeah more more most news in the beauty the the ship that. The Elmore plantation. He was a view who's most of them children a boy whose first name disease passed away but it really nice guy anyway they have checked in three different ways that most. I know some people seem it's muskies you idiot no the people who'll have that name actually told me they pronounce it most so that's what I give. But the they have one that is just a baked chicken with the garlic in them and the parsley in the olive oil and crusty skin and then it's you cut into it it's just tenders can be that's great. But they also do. Chicken. Cacciatore. Witches in the in the style of the hunter that's what that means. And it's a red sauce with mushrooms. And in the process to Austin but that's and the chicken to. That's delicious. And then Obama the other one is probably most popular. They call it chicken ala grundy. And it's again a roast chicken with the olive oil and garlic and herbs and everything. But they also have in the air some Italian sausage and some potatoes and a couple of other things that is in you resist the finish I really. Yeah so it a couple of four. It. I'm sorry say again. Nick yet nick most that we that he was that he was really a nice guy every time I ran into him he would. Talked to me like I was somebody important in this was back when I was about 22 years world. So all in. Now. Well well in July I know you will and remember. Bring your your good credit card because they don't say they they they. They've stopped insisting on cash but they haven't ATM machine that you need to. Could work with but other than that it's a great place to go I've really. Well thanks for calling. See it's the food show we will come back with more of that in a moment but first please don't go away for your mental but first please. The oh hi there at the food show. This is Renee over here on the green phone. And they welcome to the food show. And there. Off funds fraud here about you. I'm my question is the path Len and lend us neverland and Shura yeah. I remember going there and sit and how you're parking lot. In the back and connecting with your boy. That's what everybody says about whenever you bring up the subject of a blend that's the first thing anybody that sub is going around in the back in park your car in the dark in and just smooching. There today. So I mean it was that's Brett through forty place I just wondered what happened to that it but they are now I never happen anymore plans to. Well. And think they are no more at mar no it hasn't been there for awhile here's here's cut a rough history of it but an infant's family. Did it for a long long time. But today that he sold it. In the late 1970s or early 1980s and no they were still there in the late sixties. And aunts and who was still the same family at that point. But then what happened was. They were taken over I'll believe it or not by the people that owned the court two sisters. They had it for a bottle wanna say around ten years. And they they got out of it and they sold it to the Marcelo family ties in Joseph Marcelo and Carlos Marcelo. Rana who always had great great restaurants everything they did they did a beautiful renovation of the old building. I had a great menu and a great chef. But the one thing they weren't counting on. Was that somebody while digging up the street in front of led since phoned some human. Bones are. And logically enough because it's a cemetery and the whole place is surrounded by cemeteries. And a whole. They all all of the work stop on this this major. Road building process. And so they were stuck here you couldn't get to the restaurant easily and it really murdered their business I was really can't because it was very good. And then they had one more owner and I forgot who that was but he didn't last long and in the next occupant of that. Was a funeral home. I enter and headaches or that down and now this no Trace of where not to. Now. Isn't that sound and I had no ICI and thought about it years. What a. You know well it's is when the my first restaurant experiences were there other congress and the main reason was that. My mother's huge family. Are part parents as they head she's mites mother was one of well. The kids. So so everybody was buried in the cemetery right there so while. You know and All Saints Day we were there in Iraq and cleaning it up and all of that now. So end. It was and we go there and I thought why this is Corey actually order what you want to eat. And I get and they and there are people who bring three. I love. And a good. OK well thank you I'm sorry to hear that happen. You tune bud all I'm. Long time ago with thanks rescue that's a great question Kate can't take care see you later Brittany. OK let's see what we have to do before. Now and you know that's exactly the conclusion I've come to a show is sponsored. By Catholics peace cafe speeds it. Is an old restaurant he goes back to the at least the 189 east but we think it goes all the way back to the 1850s. Enough of that. Back in the seventies it became one of the hippest restaurant in town full of the arts community. Really great cooking and a lot of really original dishes and you'll find that to this day they were open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. They are also open for Sunday brunch every week. Cafe XP so. 1011 Decatur street and we are oh momentarily going to get a news update and then will be back almost immediately with more of the food chose to stay tune welcome back. To the food show where we have a lot of fun and them and talk about the things we talk about it the table we'd love to top review but that. Or number is 2060187. And anything good to eat lately hasn't been any good response. We just a few minutes ago at a call from a lady who was interest in in the old let infants restaurant which comes up once in awhile. On our. On our program. I. And Peggy Scott aboard the way we deduce cooperatively she's. Longtime friend of mine she's always producing. On TV pieces over at channel twelve in doing that for years and years and she also has a show called. The a step and out show and it tells you where to go out to eat and you know what what's happening at the movies and plays and all of that use. And anyway the two of us wrote a book together and it's called the lost restaurants of New Orleans and the most asked about it. Restaurant. From the past that everybody seems to remember. Very fondly. The one that gets the most questions and answers is you'll keep it carries on. On Claiborne avenue but number two is definitely went that some always hearing people wanna know about Lincoln's. Long gone. And to tell you the truth I think he was very good except that the end when they had a brilliant chef. Who later wound up over at the upper line com komen was his name. And I don't think he exactly fit right into that restaurant at that time but the food we sure. So anyway what I guess I'm asking you is. What what's that what's on your plate and tell me all about him tell me what you love and what you what you don't love and all of that to a 60. 187 use the telephone number. And gives call them. And we'll talk about whatever it is let's see we start with the curly it's this year. And find out whether that's. For real and not currently. Yet early you there. Okay. Do you have currently here. Don't know. How all icy okay well that's close and there. Are welcome to our show. Thank you. The court and very retired it's one a year. But pollen and thank you for that. While it isn't one thing and I think courier re. And I really well Korea old when I am art in the eighty year. They like dale. Like all. Really what. Are you. A Korean rest. Would we do have a couple of them. It forget about Slidell if there's if there's a Korean restaurant in Slidell I don't know by so it it's possible maybe somebody knows women who call us. But the net has been the best to me to tell you the truth I'm not sure it's still with us. It was called the Korea how loose you know we're drug noses. And in Metairie OK you know where the lake mole. No OK well anyway that's where it is it's on them yet Google it that's the way to find is called the Korea how walks. And they had a tremendous. Amid new. Especially of those economists who beat issues that they make that a really spicy with the beef and and trip and all kind of stuff than they do it in a big. Bold made out of stone. Be viewed by you probably have you know was where even got out of Lima. But I'm not sure. If this place is still let me let me just take a quick look on my website is somebody told me not long ago when it was not some of these stupid. That they were that it wasn't there. And we don't. Just a punch in this up on my computer room here. Corey. I you know what I find it real hard to talk in two keyboard things that's due. And you really. I'll give you I'll give you their phone number in the you can column and then we'll get to the bottom of the it's 888. 0654. 8880654. If they are open go the year you will really love it's illegal. So yeah all right in the report if you go see him anymore and you just hope we can and Africa one. Hi this one is called the little Korea. It's at 3301. Excel Claiborne 3301. Would be pretty far uptown. That would be around maybe you'd. Broadway and their ability that when you blow to equate more than that that was flawless. Right. Oh okay well and then there's another one at twenty to forty magazine street. And I have that number two if you wanna call it's. Two. Look at them in the car speakerphone so well. Well we certainly don't want to live dangers you're driving so that I. Well I appreciate your calling anybody know of any other. Korean restaurants in the area it's a wonderful cuisine the best of all ever was he doing gets kind. Which is not with us anymore and here's Donna Donna welcome to the food show. Thank you. What. Do you. That is out. Oh. That. It. On ha yeah I do what it in the name of it is induces. And it's in the old part of of Kenner. It's my old stomping grounds. I used to go to school two blocks away from there it's not Williams it's on Williams boulevard between the railroad tracks in the report. And I don't think so. But I'm pretty sure there are open on Saturday and they have been open every other time I've been so. I don't know it's a seven day operation may be bought. All right Cuba's report Alice 01. It's the food show notes whose readers will. Will. Yes sir thank mark or thank you for calling. I'm doing me. That ought to call and maybe just order to. Restaurant around. Agree speak it is like an outward and Carolina last month ordered or you. Update it in the tigris. I'm maverick spirit only ordered him. Was born a man. Yet. You could you could put going near an you put figs and going near everything. And obviously do the desserts but you it makes a great. Goalies for a variety of meets most notably pork. And duck those two things and I can tell you where this is a restaurant that has a really great pitch based on the dock. It's called the maple street cafe it's on maple street uptown between Broadway and Carrollton. And it's quirky little place and one of the and really signature dishes on the menu was this roasted. Of boneless duck rest. And it's it's good to start with but they put this delays of of pigs over it and it's makes it even better that really terrific. Other than that most of the figs that you will see. Coming on will be parts of desserts. So it sold the we just to name a couple places and Inge Lowber condos ice cream place over one. Are now on. Right off of canal street and and Carrollton and no particular that a but it's right there and and they do these fig cookies in and much of the things. In most of the problem with pigs is that there really seasonal and there's there are times of year win. You can get a but you don't want them you know when burned. Well it's not something good call me again until we went once. Mark nice hearing from UC. It's the food show we will pause for a moment then we'll come back and talk to -- C in Sydney and Greg on and knowing which Woodrow flips and point well we're in the break and we'll be right back hello hello it's the food show this is so it's more it's great to be here with you talking about food cooking.
