Would that make you think twice about ordering a cheeseburger if it says you would need to RUN 5 MILES to burn off the calories? Is it all about information or about willpower and goals? AND: Renee Zellweger has a new look, she says no plastic surgery just good clean living….some doctors are saying…uh no she had obviously had some work done because she looks radically different. So we'll -- your take your calls. About that after awhile but first we're gonna crank it up today talking about of course what's happening in Japan. And and there has been. Especially would what happened in Haiti with a big earthquake that happened there and it was like wow look how easy this is like I text. Haiti too -- number and boom they put ten dollars on my you know my cellphone bill and Bada -- -- helping people unfortunately there's still a lot of wondering did all that money go where it was supposed to go there's there's still a lot of who knows -- going on over there are people again pretty leery about it however we still have a lot of people over there who need help and certainly a lot of people in Japan who need help with those and I would go to the quake and tsunami. Was going on with the those unfortunately the nuclear reactors. And trying to get as much up to date information on that as possible. When we got smacked with Katrina. I know a lot of people didn't see it firsthand but a lot of actually a lot of people did we got a lot of help from Japan. Got lots and lots of it and one of the reasons we did is because there are very generous people. But another reason is because we have a long linked with the country Japan. There's a couple of organizations want a prominent ones is the Japan club. And joining us from the Japan club. Is Gregg took a Yamaha I want you growing very -- by -- and I appreciate you taken a common time to come and talk to us that first off. You grew up in Hawaii -- on Japanese descent do you have family over there right now who is in the mid. Let us know I know I have cousins on my father's side that are in southern Japan so they're not affected by -- long but we do have. Many members so -- the Japan could do that do have relatives over there that are. Near but not actually impacted by and then sort of thing now one of the vote Lou Fukushima fifty go right -- -- exactly so yeah and they're all okay and. That's -- tsunami and counts counsel small blessings where you can because this I mean. This is going to be this is on going its ongoing because of and when you have a an earthquake first -- the governor of quick of that size of that magnitude. The aftershocks of that earthquake are bigger than most earthquakes I mean. Right afterwards they had a six point six not far off -- the coast and and they have some on the on the west of the West Coast of Japan. And -- -- You know -- -- a six point six would have been some that were made the news that day and that's just the aftershock going to be able. Sold this is going to be an ongoing story for awhile which means they're gonna need. Help and that's one of the reasons you're here today. That's right and -- through Japan club we've. All put together a consortium of other organizations -- where it's Japan society of New -- in conjunction with. The Japanese garden foundation. And -- the war ones as well as through it in conjunction with 8002. Formed this consortium whereby it. People can donate money through our different groups in one mobile will have a central repository. Administered by the great and Wallace foundation which has a long history of being. Ruck funeral route rolled into collecting funds and then the disbursement as directed by. On you know our board of directors and and that sort of thing so. We've created this -- called no load Japan quake fund. Will -- website that's up and running currently. Which is www. Nolo in Japan quake fund dot. Terror and roku HE ROK you dot com and from this site there are different links where you can click on to donate. And when you do that the money will go directly to. The greater enormous foundation they'll put it in the account for. These are consortium so that down the road. Although once -- -- look where the need is what kind of projects we're gonna do yet. Then they'll disperse the funds in the -- you'll also be able to get your tax receipts for tax deductibility. Reason that sort of thing. So we have that and took us awhile to find a good -- people on. They're terrible did you notice -- -- those days ago I got one of the G you know foundation they get they they have a good -- so mean for if whatever future stuff people want their listener and if you're looking for somebody and and they have the time because I mean what they got a bunch of stuff on their plate -- First off. Thanks for them from for re enabled it to fit you guys in and do this to. That's right and and also with the help of the honorary consul general in Japan and was gonna phrase she's been able to help. Well orchestrated and speed up some of these things that always gonna take this considerably longer. We've also thankful for the young people with a -- the past chairs draws from new. Sung Kim. Who have all worked put them in the past when they did their fundraising efforts. For the tsunami victims and Thailand back in 2004. And they still have ongoing projects -- all money that was donated back then. So on -- foundation -- A perfect way for us ago because now we can direct where. Although the money goes a senate just giving it to. An organization. And -- know what. Bureaucrat -- see that's one of the reasons I was glad that you guys were here in -- because you put a face on alone was like go right here because we have enough. And. Stands and says well look we've got we've got how many we we just send the Renee gill Pratt the most Jefferson all of that stuff which were government officials. -- -- -- -- Couldn't you know -- taxpayer dollars an enemy so people unfortunately are leery. -- well also every day I get emails from mark. From the US attorney's office about people who ripped off vote Katrina money in the ripped off the Red Cross football -- ripped off. Contractors ripping -- people people rip off contractors I mean it's constant so a lot of people look. And and go gee I wish I could do some and help. Blunt I'm not gonna give my money to a scant. And being you know what can't be too I mean you can you can like I like double tax thing you could still do that -- -- this that there's -- Red Cross in Japan. And I'll look them up and and they weren't. Really set up to accept that kind of stuff exactly business because they're just so overwhelmed they don't even know they meaner I don't know maybe it's a -- How they're gonna try and pardon or were certain of the Red Cross is what they've already here. Ten -- and -- and they got a big warehouse I think in Indonesia would whole bunch of stuff that they're just wait leadership. You'll see it's one of those deals like you know my wife and our tournament this the other night after Katrina. We have a lot of people who offered -- stuff but it -- like it. -- there -- one not only how much got to get it there but it's like the stuff you wanna give me I'm gonna need 689 months from now for right now. It's can be a burden from -- lug around and that's when I talk to the two very. It was -- Amos welcome from the Red Cross around here. Shields looked easiest thing for you to do is give us some money because we know what from behind and will just go buy it so instead you bringing us. You know a hundred blankets well that's cool but. We don't need a hundred blank until next week and we don't have to sit on them without the fireplace the storm for a week or two or some like -- so in the in the immediacy of a situation like this. If you can give money give money. Almost openly in and we'll help out also on it makes it easier from a tax deductibility Stanley one recchi keeping that sort of thing. But also more we've found through other organizations experiences that. While people are in the mood to give and donate that the money is the best way to do because now we can collected in a -- because of the consortium. We have greater buying power for down the road when we've identified where the need is most and which specific organizations are gonna do. Different projects that. Are gonna provide that need let's say maybe for the elderly or for children -- for schools all and that sort of thing and we can direct money. To those specific organizations but we have -- to have that collected. Safekeeping. Through -- for Asia and and life is grand -- move forward we're also putting together some different fundraisers. -- -- of various local musicians and -- once we finalize those will be. -- nor well you know telling us that way for don't go anywhere on cousin when we come back -- wanna talk from a -- the -- moved to New Orleans Japanese. Foundation -- -- the -- -- it was the other club on defense is solid brand decided they've been around since 1928 to those -- up a little bit on them. But tell us more about your club when we come back you're gonna step away for a second. And we'll start taking your calls to a 267866889087. Or toll free line and that's my question do you do. Do you feel leery about donating because because of some of some of the new stores that have come out about people getting ripped off what -- what can you do what are you prepared to do and what you wanna hear more. From -- from Greg here about his organization that make you feel confident. In donating even your money can they donate time when will you be asking for material. So we get back you'll start taking your calls continue talking with Greg -- Yamaha who is from the Japan club and we're talking about helping in the relief efforts. Going on after the -- good but not. -- like -- and then find left today on a preview. Hey guess what 49 a month -- he -- when he. Sitting on every other car 100000 mile warranty and you read down -- did you get more free strange. It's kind of like a really good. It's the -- show -- gumbo John scored McConnell on WWL. AM FN dot com. News talk and sports leader turned up the flame viable. 042601874866889. OH seventy. I'm trying to think -- blunt talk and. Bring -- certain element here is from the Japan what. And we were comparing looking at the video I mean they don't really have video of -- of of the wave the storm surge that took out. None that I've seen really you know seeing a lot of things that are supposed to be always taken away when inclement -- as well Fausto Carmona armor. But these things that you see if no just gone through via to go to Japan -- broad daylight. Almost and here's -- here's boats that are coming right through the middle of the city. And I mean -- five miles -- and it's just it's that's incredibly frightening so com. Let's say first off I saw this that the emperor has actually come on television to speak -- -- the people to come down and NB you know do with a got to do. How how old. How often does that happen that the emperor himself comes on television very very infrequently and only for very serious. Slow situations. And even in other serious situations. The prime minister only handles or any of the other. Higher agendas of crucible for -- -- come out mean and actually do. The media spot is just opinion really rare -- new X. -- because. I have a while a rough working knowledge of what goes on in England with the monarchy over there I mean basically you look at their queen is the head of the government but she doesn't -- on the government of prime minister runs a government. Is that roughly the same in Japan is what is -- Set up the -- similar kind of away and excepted they're. No relationship with the emperor of the Japanese people. Is very very different you know the from the old days and the marquee days when of the emperor was the -- god and and kept separate from the people and in that. On tradition still continues. Now on and. We see the queen a lot more -- -- -- she comes on the makes regular speeches a regular events. So it's it's something per Emmys host of the emperor doesn't come on every New Year's us remind them make a speech a summer no no no. So so that lets you know how serious the situation is always -- let's talk about the Japan club -- talk about what people can actually do because of the things -- -- you get a big long a big long home. Email address for people to go tour web site I just Google but New Orleans Japan club and boom went straight to your press release shall remain. We have to do Franklin does have a website now finally it's only down in this as you prior that we didn't and one. Because there are very small organization now we've been here. -- which are do a lot of stuff from a consumer pitches I mean don't have like a feed the masses they don't have regular party that you. You guys who sponsor when the drums come on from Sonoma Samantha and my kids dig that so much when makeup. Bring in on those big I mean my son Jack will be out different a week which owns stakes in bang on -- at a point where his systems are thrown stuff out of you know. That's a small cultural festival that we've. And that no for the last fifteen years or very thankful for -- is support being able to use of venue on Japan club also has a in the August timeframe at lakeside shopping senator alone born a boy -- announce the to show the on the Japanese stance is that are done. On to coincide with the most votes are -- -- Karate Kid through and that's about it and oh so this is Carlin and that's at the traditional Downey's -- your honor the dead. And that sort of thing so we have. That display in the August timeframe like you said in the fall. We have while Japan's -- Nomo for a while there. Prior to Katrina we had it in the spring and that was a funding cut everything I had to work out with. -- general's office but traditionally it's in the fall so when they migrated. From new -- to Nashville. We moved it back to the fall then it will continue to be the traditional. Fall timeframe and -- And we're trying to pull out a lot of different -- groups. To share Japanese -- with the metropolitan area and it's one of the largest things that we do it is the largest in that we do it's a one day event only on Sunday. Now we moved it to Saturday so we don't think. No conflicts with the same schedules. If that happens very wise ass in here as Roger was the -- let's talk to well and he can't stay too long in my have to keep your one more segment tournaments. But let's let's let's talk about okay. Wait how is this gonna affect. The people of Japan I mean this is huge where we've had many debates here -- spent the last ablaze just talk about nuclear energy and people don't want you so -- nuclear power. When when and jump and we dropped two atomic bombs on Japan mean radiation. It's is. I don't Lehman armed armed. Stumbling around and how I put it. But frankly I mean -- -- Japan does not have a lot of coal. Anymore it doesn't have any -- whatsoever have to import a lot of energy and nuclear just made a lot of sense for them but how's this gonna change their attitude was that's. Well I don't know it's still kind of up in the air but you know one of the things we have to look back candidate for a Fukushima that. That -- been operating for for over forty years and the safest one on around and and that sort of thing so. Of course a lot of people going to be reevaluating. The construction of the facility -- Keep the spent materials they referred them what they already did that. Of you know new containment vessels and and things of that nature to. Make it much more safer also. To look at reinforcing cooling systems and look at existing plan to beef up their cooling systems to prevent radiation around. On dispersion in the event of a catastrophic event that sort of thing. And they're very -- Japanese as a society as a culture very pragmatic so frankly I mean unless somebody else really advance -- solar energy overnight. The options aren't there to my right the very very -- Limited options and it's. Probably the most economical. For what they have infrastructure wise with their foreign ground also for their limited resources. Caroline and a lot of other countries are. Re looking at their situation because they hit. Kind of follow the Japanese pattern -- -- us all you know small segment for power generation for Derek Derek. Individual governments and countries. And so now we we come though that that road no divide in the road of do we continued to utilize nuclear energy. To. Satisfy our gargantuan. Desire for power consumption -- all were -- technology electronic gear. And that sort of thing. And there there there. Dell makes them liked running here -- into an eyewitness that we can hang on one side you're all right Greg's gonna -- what we want more singer Chris -- and -- newsroom. He's gonna bring us up to -- 267866. Any 9087. He is our toll free line my guess is the Greg. And keep one on -- messes up token you mama that's token Yamaha Greg appropriate to such and it's also strength -- -- -- should Japanese name I mean your name's Greg took around. How long. 35 years five years. And we're plugging Nolan Japan quake fund for your donations to help support other relief and recovery rebuilding efforts in Japan. And the -- -- foundation is gonna oversee all the funding so you can go I mean look if I thought I got people semi -- over here 87870. You can send me a text. And -- -- I don't need to read on the air why they're leery about donating money for their people who were leery about donating money. Because they donated for other things and they hear read new stories that the organization I gave this money to. For this reason didn't spend all of Obama's resume -- spent half of an honest are you can't come solicit -- let you wanna come solicit funds rate because onto a bunch of stuff font. If -- consulates applause from because someone is gonna go to Japan. For their problems I want the money go to Japan you know. And that's who were doing with this. Consortium though -- forged with on -- Japan quake fund administered by -- you know foundation because. Later on and I was so we get into the recovery rebuilding phases. And we've identified specific groups we're gonna be having them send us. Requests for proposals. To do specific projects and then on GO foundation will dole out money too much like the contract. So basically they're gonna sit on the money. You guys are going to go okay well this sounds like the legit thing you forwarded to -- you know -- -- -- -- check. Are partially will won't do reevaluation part saying yes OK we're gonna fund help build rebuilding is cool. And then like the contract when you build -- house you don't give them all the money up front you know you give -- 10% here may be a. Third there okay so extended that one out if if -- organization you're gonna go well for instance right up there at Xavier Pitt -- Like how -- not cutter Qatar. Cut and you move QA TAR -- company invade the country has built a whole pavilion on saviors. The third Carter. Pharmacy pavilions like they have specific going on -- that's for your organization and go okay you saw this. Elementary school got washed away in a tsunami on the YouTube video we're gonna rebuild that school and so that's what your that's the kind of specifics you guys gonna get into. Exactly or you know something for the elderly in a specific -- abilities and economic thing. And it's on mirrored after what eight passes did what their foundation. And fundraising for the tsunami victims and our entire like they still have money left over from all the donations that they got -- that they're still reviewing proposals and they've gone. On their own -- to go and make sure. That there project in fact get completed idea of the sort of thing and we intend to do the same kind of thing with all the money that's donated. I'm gonna throw money -- a pot that frankly there are things that Japanese government may fund a 100% on their own examine your phones we'll get lost in the shuffle I don't know this is gonna go specifically to use specific towns areas organizations. And on that present the most need. All and will be monitoring. Their coffee will be able to go to your website and go this is what we decided to funding here's stay exactly to. Here's the army -- -- -- here is right exactly and in Walton and we'll have that tracked ability. Through the website. And you can see the progress along the way once we get to that point. But for right now who waiting to see you. And identify where the need is gonna be great is just so right now it's just a big mess so there's no point exactly -- other people are throwing big dollars around that there's no reason for us to waste. Our precious limited resources. We think we can afford to wait six months on doling out money. To find though good project yet more than you may wanna rebuild a school but the main. Bond now. You have a goal for the amount of money wanna raise are you just right now you wanna get as much as you can and you'll do everything you can always together. There's as much as we can and then will dole out like you said. Very very judiciously based on specific projects where the needs are on and that sort of thing so. Every little bit help song. If people of other questions you'll always contact. Consul general Japan in Nashville Nashville's one -- its overseas us this one -- -- but it read those stats and Oklahoma tried that that's a whole different area none of the wanna national migrated from the war on slow down three years ago and and of course. Lot of people were upset about that -- we contains. A lot of the senate that music city and area and now OK our -- set up yet to receive right money over texts or things like Paramount over -- through the website. You don't have to use -- Japan quake funded that would be most helpful but if you. If you know we just wanna make good. -- a donation to usually right -- -- quake. That's probably going to do that that's gonna get in the right thing in the ill get to the wrote to us to -- fund there and will be most grateful -- com foundation will also be. Issuing out though the tax receipts and and that sort of thing and as well as they have the accountability in terms of any audits that people might question where is where the money go you know that sort of thing. -- -- Unless thing now you talk about and you don't have any and set in in mind yet but. Do you wanted to fund raisers what are you -- and talk about -- -- I mean let's bring them Japanese drums that man I relevant not but. Cool I coming it's like they use them but right now there's some musicians. All are again together -- time. Pick a location. Looking at possibly the first of may to have some kind of -- fund raiser with local musicians. CAC and maybe some the other Japanese local Japanese musicians whom are in the area and things like that. Oh -- going to be looking -- down the road. Trying to part with no much to do fund -- take advantage of the traveling. On Japanese so art show that they have there right now the one hand clapping. -- display that they have there be a good backdrop. Always try and such summing up along those lines for. Fundraising and of course all the other organizations are going to be doing there. Different. Fundraising. Events through their own hunger organizations this. This was not this is not -- this phone I just had a media you have a bunch musicians and a bunch of people come and do listen nobody don't think. But if you would auction off the dinner for four with like real and I mean real. Geisha girls I mean like the cup and an authentic. Japanese and Japanese dinner TSI with the hole and I mean in in the robes and the whole surveying with the patent. Person -- play in the -- -- -- yeah I'm Italian meant this book you got. I got it I don't think also they August moon rise and I got the Karate Kid through and that's my experience in though that's it. So you see a couple of -- mean. And we eligible. Denny's restaurants -- my Japanese that could possibly you know how's that kind of thing. The army in all around that would be of you know one possible while venue location and I can everything so. It's a great ideas but in low -- see what we can do to maybe you pursue that our vehicle and give you an invite. Are you can have like you know those those bloom. I can't think of -- term that anyhow there's you know what I'm talking about below the seven Nike that he much he's Nazi -- stuff and man like once a week you go he's Abacha get a piece of it goes for the fond of. Right right we can do that because I know that little Tokyo restaurant -- restaurant. They have already been collecting and donate accepting donations and so they'll be doing. Their boards are big supporters of -- love you know these kinds of fundraising events for. Jet just Japanese people and Japanese culture and and helping us out with Japan thing. I understand you know 10% tomorrow -- that here's my bill his much simpler way to some. Here's an extra 10% to go to fund -- veteran that comes they want very much it's a drag militant Abacha step because they look to see that little -- volcano with a young man up behind him. -- jewelry at prices New Orleans alone. Fisher's -- full service -- -- jewelry 1036 canal street it's worth the trip from anywhere. It's this -- -- talk gumbo with -- -- -- -- Total one WWL BM. Conversation. 187. 486688. Now. Craig took Leo among gridlock. With a fund raising and I think that's going to be. I think that I mean because that's that's a hands on face solemn thing right here and the great and -- foundation does have a pretty good rep. And it's not like they can don't want the money without the okay from the other organizations -- -- kind of like the way to got a set up so we'll see how well that works. All right let's move on to six so 178668890870. Is our toll free line. The president put out and he wrote a popular among -- him. The president won't wrote an op Ed piece. In the in the Arizona paper. -- It. He wants to work on gun control he wants both sides to sit down and start talking about gun control measures that work. A quote from is up in porous background checks are bad for police officers for law abiding citizens. And for the sellers themselves if we're serious about keeping guns away from someone who's made up his mind to kill. Then we can't allow a situation where responsible seller denies -- a weapon at one store but he effortlessly buys the same guns someplace else. We talked about all this. After -- the situation in the Tucson happened. Com by the way though I don't have an -- army but the latest I read about congresswoman Giffords was it looks like I mean she is. They're pretty much amazed that and her and her comeback. It's been awhile since -- read something the blessing our rifts that through this she's they're considering allowing her going to two wants to take off I. When her husband goes up I mean he's she's doing so well that he's decided he can go and do his space mission. I think it's endeavor he's going to be flown a mature and again I don't have -- in front -- -- and just relying on memory from -- and stuff but. That's that's -- that's remarkable I think so keep that beat extra -- on the rose refer -- the argument though. The argument. About. About gun control. My deal of it is this myriad myriad walls are already on the books are ignored. There about a bunch of stuff there's so many blue laws on the books that -- people only about a deal with -- it's like the same thing with -- with the area debate about immigration. There's -- could Jillian laws on the books that are being current being. Enforced now. So before we sit down and -- put more stuff on a book that you can't keep track -- Go back. Look at the stuff that's already on the books. Get rid of the stuff that's never worked. And and start enforcing the stuff that that has promised -- -- -- and has worked. The things that might might might take on all this stuff since that's what spawned literally all of this sit down -- sit down and talk about it. -- is what happened to congresswoman Giffords. -- -- -- It's just come across as a nut ball. He is there's plenty of vote of both of love information out there to show that it wasn't stable. But from what I understand. I don't think that gets put in the background check that the people checked in the FBI. You know a look there's unscrupulous gun dealers out there this unscrupulous car dealers out there there's unscrupulous doctors out there there's unscrupulous. Radio personalities up in this unscrupulous -- Across the port. One thing that wasn't put in the mix. Follow. When when all this was being discussed is is is what else goes on that list to keep people from buying a weapon and why is it's centralized with the FBI. You know kept it. Announcing into -- with the FBI is of centralized list. But the sheriff of every county -- parish were all the you where where this stuff is gone or should have a list to. That guy Jared lost there was kicked out of that community college and they said he was not and they filed a police report on. Well. That should have been in the mix too. That should have been in the mix to the fact that somebody EO of authority. This this universe this this college where he went the teachers there and his students and his fellow students. All basically said there's something wrong when him and he is not stable. Well that should have gone on both on the list. And then if he goes to bio weapon and they and they flagged him because of that news -- you know what you've got a problem you got a good deal with the sheriff to get this taken off. I don't think that. I don't think that would deny him his Second Amendment Rights. You know. I don't have a problem with somebody you know not being able to go to they've been convicted of a felony. You've given up -- right because the the right to keep and bear arms as far as I'm concerned is just that it's a right but it's the -- abuse of that right. Is what makes you lose it when you abuse that right you'll lose it there this. So as far as I'm concerned. If they were to put something in there going look you haven't you have viewed through your words and your actions you have demonstrated to people who have. A competent authority to make these kinds of assessments that you are not quite stable enough to be purchased and a gun. Then he can go back through the sheriff and go all right what do I gotta do to get this flag taken off my fingers I wanna profile up. So if someone and they got to put that into the mix when they have they sit down and have their conversation because you know this sounds to me like just one more okay. What can we do to take that many more guns off the streets we're out of the hands of -- Madonna wanna get into the same argument the only -- only only.
