Exit 89. 0870 of course talking about the game yesterday the Saints in the 49ers. In the divisional round of the playoffs. And the -- keep coming -- we have someone attacks here Deke it's that held the lady ginger who called who works at the airport. Not to worry she said she was heartbroken and disappointments you've got the smile -- people all day today in the she can do it. This guy yeah Mike and Algiers sticks in cases the people at the pits or air. Pittsburgh airport openly glare at me everytime I Wear my Saints had so it's okayed the glare at the it people who want to say. That. Again it's a you know -- move move and -- we you know we were ahead at first place schedule. In 2012 bar and of course the the days in towns are still yet to be determined but both -- are divisional opponent a good home schedule fairly. Washington San Fran to you look at -- feeling in San Fran it'll be two of the top four teams in the NFC I think next year. Kansas City and San Diego two teams from the AFC west -- -- pretty good this year in the road trip. This as a division games at Dallas and New York Giants Green Bay because the first place team. -- from the west so you're playing in. A Green Bay team they won their division and New York team they won their division -- -- the team they won their division and now some of the you know San Cisco team they wanted to be -- out schedule but -- like I always say you know. The -- -- strength of schedule predicated on what you did in eleven goals and it will. Had a mean nothing this six new teams in the post season this year they wanted to post season last year. So EE you know -- if our -- regular short. San Francisco grants Columbia you know would they going to be -- -- you you were -- not at Saban at thirteen to three not the number two seed for a semi each year takes on different. Makeup but I think we're already seeing -- the importance of if -- in that position. To get -- at home theater and ironically you know six. CN we and -- to to see but it old man. And last year you need to be Iran at thirteen fourteen -- initiate you need to have fourteen we have to be in the top two seats though. You may you may take that makes you. I was given the vols get a lot of folks that have been holding them to go to Matt. In -- world is a match you're on to -- WL. Good morning god. I think the field. That the real problem with Brent. Pierre Thomas Scott injured when he got in my wife likes them what speed will accept. What's wrong spot to drop what they're big and physical this is like last year and that's what I mean -- what we we -- on the and without yeah one of the original. Saints got Wanda so global you know he's so important to the club is so underestimated. You know and so. Believe we played great and happily. That he's kept his role as a substitute. But it was after the shall not welcome he's given so much don't get problem but it was kinda like Reggie once -- -- You know even though -- play the position -- That -- -- last year. He was still in the same position I'll ask you can do -- -- -- -- the same without you are not the strike offense and the strap on limiting -- Added to branch more on being there it took you know it's like it's like well caught the end you know wriggle out being on the people. Got everything you make your making Saints and mad but at the end of the day -- -- -- to a show it's all fancy at 32 point summing those guys with a certain that without question you had forced into the big name but. Did the reason -- Sproles was in the -- more so is because the 49ers don't allow but seventy all of the Russian some -- it would have been nice to have obviously PA if we. The bid book -- they don't drive we can -- three points out of that draft that would be huge so that was more of an issue. From that standpoint because we went you know. Other -- of the draft late in the game that you know those -- longest drive it to me we opened the game tied it with -- may when you talk about take them on out of the defense we went all the way down -- it all the way down to feel -- -- you know we did anything to show for an event one he thought about a touchdown late. Or interception -- -- -- -- -- the momentum of the game that he wouldn't put on -- de -- Thomas that was a momentum changer that -- -- a -- I do believe it. And with that people texting and calling and asking about that it why wasn't -- call helmet to helmet and so forth while I was in their penalty on that. It's simply because usually when it's a running back running forward who you know when a running back runs they put their head down. They don't call that -- -- penalty I don't ever seen a referee call a penalty when it's a running back with a head to head. Contact when he's running for that's mainly receiver and a quarterback -- which is a shame because helmet to helmet is what it is it's -- of him and that was him with him. All right Matt what else you got former. I think Matt's gone okay. -- before -- far wanna -- all the folks over at the Hampton and that's Hoch and has homeway moment Christian to work over here with a long days and nights. Because most. And proceed he's not -- good -- One patent on the other hand. You know. He is given you I was -- and made it look as quickly as I was born -- He's Jim and I looked -- league because he chips -- honest it was called -- -- play. This is -- super -- right. Didn't dance at the bottom of the -- now. As substantial period of time and yet. In -- adequately compete Kitna passed. Well all our our docket today is Darryl if you compare the two. Do you have elicited radio station 'cause of the first to call we failed last 91 and -- we've showed his morning as we got to make a change. At defensive coordinator we've got to do some different defense to play. Now as far as comparison. The miles that he he takes in the in the heat Peyton takes. It's different scenario so I mean you can look at the wins they've both won championships and so forth but look it is greatest they both may be in. I think you also add the look at what has happened when they have not being -- And when things have not being great for less miles. They are much greater on a scrutinized scale there what Sean Payton his head because of this just the different. The different situations they were -- as far as preparation as far as clock management. In all that thought out of -- topic -- affairs analogy in. I'm looking at the board now Todd over the -- to -- him to death trap people is saying get rid of Gregg Williams on her way to pants on the front and we've also. Reported -- -- chapter from ESPN is we did that. People are expecting Greg Williams take job with the Jeff Fisher. And he has Stevens coordinators so. There you go and that saint sorority -- you know should be looking at Steve Spagnuolo and Mike Nolan. With that he also included Jeff Fisher's duck hunting today and now Brian Schottenheimer. He schedule he and Brian are scheduled to -- about the Rams offensive according job tonight so is that Jeff -- blue and gold I don't know Jeff Fisher's move forward. Oh he's now waiting for the Senior Bowl and all the stuff he's in the know with this -- No because 'cause he's again without the entrance to and so forth but it is kind of one of those things tied to that the you know all right. There's a lot of things and out there and asked how like I hope that I only play as a Senior Bowl mobile both the coaches to really go out people go to Therese of maize and try to pick up some interviews. But you know when you're bigger you've been at a game like Jeff Fisher who the formation it was the longest tenured coach in the National Football League. He pretty much knows everybody knows what he wants to do you know so. Time will take your break when we come will we come back we'll wrap up this segment and plays some things about. Sean Payton post game press conference. When we come back. -- lot of people that -- all that all the questions ever asked and will move forward and continued to talk about this taking all the way up to the AFC playoff game. At noon he's the ability I'm not an assistant saint Sunday on WWL. They'll welcome back the Saints Sunday top finances it was if -- 6018786. Exit 890870. Yells at Texas -- 87870. You know a lot of people calling for a Greg Williams -- time changes need to be made some people are saying hey look. We forgot about 09 and they'll let -- Greg Williams go maybe Malcolm Jenkins is no Darren Sharper maybe that's the problem we're talking about. 26 -- 786 exit 89087. He will take a -- calls it more your comments here the first off. Our Steve Geller put together something here to talk about the coach Sean Payton post game press conference a lot of people -- to be here. Well all the questions over -- him so we're gonna go ahead and and play this for -- in a Steve did a good job on this so. Steve go hidden -- take this away and this is coach Sean Payton in the post game press conference yesterday in San Francisco. After a wild ending in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs here's how coach don't pay an open his post game press conference. After San Francisco beat New Orleans 36 to 32. -- we recognize the finality of it. Then you go to go through swings. Momentum swings that we had in -- we had our opportunities in. And again credit San Francisco for her make him go one more play than us took to win a tough game. -- was then asked about the five turnovers the Saints had in the game. Especially the ones early on that -- 49ers a seventeen nothing movie we were fortunate honestly. If it did have time one of the things I mentioned the team -- -- turn off turnovers as we had to be just down three. We felt we felt pretty good. That that it wasn't more than that so. That was one element that was disappointing San Francisco made some big plays but we were able hang in there are kind of overcome those in the second half but certainly that's tough to stuff over from. The media then that's paid his initial reaction to how his team played in the game I thought two or three things it's it's a real good defense. And they do they do really good job. Try to keep the ball in front of them. There we had to be patient at times with the underneath throws we were able to hit some of those and other times -- -- pressure but. That's that's one of the better defense we've played all year. I thought. By and large there was there were a lot of good things and there's things that you watched on tape that -- -- It would it would have been able to do better so nothing specific right now. Running back Pierre Thomas left the game early after getting leveled on the saints' opening drive and never return to play -- was asked if he felt that dramatically hurt the team's offensive attack. Well you lose a starting north of the player like here. Obviously. Do you wanna stay as healthy as you can he's going to be okay that's most important. -- happened early on and I thought Darren person that are real good job of handle and more snaps than usual. Pierre does a lot of things well for us that screens are part of it there. The same way it just meant that those other guys are gonna have to pick up the workload he saw there and snaps go way up and saw Chris get more snaps certainly there's a a number of things that. That we think here goes well for us and you know you hate to lose -- player like that. And finally what was the game plan for niners tight end Vernon Davis. Who went -- the day with a 180 yards and two school hours looking makes big plays in the -- And just like Jimmy Graham. You know so it's -- it. I'm excited about it in the second guessed it but that's the mark of real good football player you know like I told our team that they end up making more plays that we did tonight. I was proud how we -- -- thought our guys hung in there despite some of the early adversity. Turnovers level defensively we made a lot of key stops were good portion of that game offensively we've battled back I thought it was. Some good things it's difficult when you lose -- game the division game like this. And and certainly. The -- Vernon Davis. That's a recap of Saints head coach or -- post game press conference now back to the big chief and Todd Manassas on WWL AM FM and WWL dot com. All right thank you Steven there you go obviously coach Peyton just as disappointed. As the Saints fans and who dat nation but you know what you look at it as a whole lot of fans are texting -- saying you know what it was a great season. We went one game further than we did last year. Yeah we'd like to go all the way every year course but I think the Saints will be in the thick of it next year let's remember that this coming season the Super Bowl is played. In the superdome of the Mercedes-Benz superdome so that's something really. To look forward to our pilots and over to our news report on -- a standing by their WW -- news headlines and it will come back. And will hear what. Drew Brees had to say in the post game and take more of your calls on WW well. And welcome back to WWL Saints Sunday it's out and us with you beekeepers. Had a head on out at some police had to -- -- leadership the second half are with you 26018786. -- 89 underweight semi. Rider that fans. Give me your reaction you can tax of 87870 we've got those coming in as well. A lot of people upset. Still a lot of folks talk about that helmet to helmet hit. With the year Thomas asking why that wasn't a flag or fine and it should be applied to all situations. And yeah we talked about that last hour and then the beginning of this hour the NFL -- they don't call that one as a running back. On a running play. There's gotta be some kind of way to rectify that. You know if you're -- college you should call at all times it shouldn't just be quarterbacks. And receivers. You know that is so for the offensive player when -- -- in the head it should be all plays but then again. If you're gonna do that how quickly can look at it I think at least. Change the rules of that of one of the players on the contact is injured and obviously. That was a pretty severe. Helmet to helmet hit as in the case with the year Thomas yesterday where he was you can see in the replay. Was knocked out when he got here I'm Salmonella because he just felt the ground and and dropped that ball and was unable to come back. In the game. For the rest of the day 26018786. Exit eight nines -- weights and it's good to a Jeff in the world and say Jeff you're on WWL. There are a couple of quite a lack in the game yesterday. In. Replays in the same -- in the game O'Connor replay -- get -- -- local bank irritate the Cleo because they're called. Didn't put it in a couple of her out as benign wind made it clear Uggla who -- -- you -- look at. -- the ball. No no no chances at a pretty well. Went that it looked at him better when we weren't nearly fake injury -- be our own. Undercut. It pet rabbit and equitable way down a little bit and there's no interest and are in sort of -- it. They didn't debacles. But it takes. Well it didn't call intentional grounding on that one because as that's the pick play you're talking about the got offensive pass interference on the. Yes it definitely an odd that may be home would -- makes Lugo would code makes -- grip do we have Beckett. -- -- Well yeah it it's not really a horse collar horse collars when the players running away from you when you grab him and injure him back all -- it was pulling down so that's why that one horse collar. And inadequate and the right I'll pose as an optimist and -- -- yet they ought to be regarded as solitaire. -- home. A couple that was it sucked in where they say about it. Grant Williams. Saw it is though the personnel. That we have up -- political game. -- did it would be just play good like everybody in full bought it yet we have breakdown and we had a meltdown. The broader problem is Jeff you know is is it a coordinator is it is that you know Greg Williams a scheme that we now have the personals -- -- as a -- -- that look you know. We've drafted a lot of -- round defense -- players in the last couple years I think people seem to think we only draft offense but. Truthfully if you look at it the defense the players we've taken we've taken higher in the draft that we've taken some were -- the players and Marcus Colston where he was drafted. You know Jimmy Graham was drafted. Very late rounds to. The question is do we have the personnel to match Greg Williams -- scheme and so forth and so on our defense has looked good at times all season long. Last year OK -- -- like was just take the two playoff games look into that game against the Seahawks and in this 49ers game. Our defense has played well the problem is our two minute defense. That doesn't play well if you look at it closely because think about it the Saints coughed up the ball five times five turnovers. If that -- the Green Bay Packers with five turnovers. And Aaron Rodgers that would have been five touchdowns. -- not. A touchdown. Couple of field goals. You know another type that would have been put him way ahead of us so our defense did very well of keeping them. Are out of the end zone a lot of the times if you look at the third quarter and they scored a field goal -- get a -- -- off of that fumble. By by Sproles on the punt. They were right down there what the 1015 yard line and all I can get out of that was a field goal because the defense held. But it's when you get to those points and late in the game when it's a two minute drive in their goal and that's when the defense. Didn't do well that's when Malcolm Jenkins of -- -- -- behind him that's when we let Frank Gore pull off a thirty yard or yard run. To get him down in the field goal range in the N. You know of course the big play at the end and Vernon Davis catches that touchdown with only nine seconds left in the game. That's where everybody remembers so. The defense did okay. They did well as what we expected when they rank high very very high this year no I think going into this game everybody was talking about. The 49ers defense in this game was going to be a battle between the Saints offense and the 49ers defense. Which he was they've given take the whole day. But when it all came down to it. It was our defense against their offense which neither one was ranked very high and no one really thought that that would be a contest either way. That's what it all came down to the game plan as we set all weeklong. Was. If they're going to be just they're gonna have to be just -- Alex Smith and they beat us -- Alex Smith. -- It's such well when they hit it and it hit me home for at least quoted -- -- -- Jimmy Graham when he went down field into about it audio rather work on over -- David. We should have caught it out yet. It's the cards are not the -- regrouped and it did not like oh we need is time. Well I know. And and and another thing their Jeff and and I guess if you wanna put something on the off fans who who. You know yeah they gave up the ball yet they played well. My biggest gripe with that. Is we scored too quickly now yeah one day you never wanna say you don't wanna take away a score. But that plate it was it was not I mean. I don't think that play was designed for Jimmy Graham to get a touchdown and -- if you ask any coach every play is designed to get a touchdown you get the so many yards and and you run for the touchdown. The defending he had three defenders around in two of them fell down one he twisted away from and he had an open field. You know if we catch that ball they bring him down right there we continue to move we do a couple short passes will -- and don't take some more time off the clock. You know and then we get ahead we've seen this happen a lot of times it's it's sort of the the blessing in the curse. Of the saints' offense is that they can score they can score quickly. The problem is sometimes we score too quickly. In the and -- leave too much time on the clock for the other team. Well far right. It would rotated different equality in that we wouldn't have caught it and don't be on the same mindset we shot pretty good at what they call it. It's old like do dynamic because. We have the terrible as well there. Well we put in is going to be complete. It was definitely had quite a good rotation after the that we get -- defense will get rotation will go right we haven't. We have a say he had a -- in my academic it would have been that kind of play OK we need eternal soul has put out -- weird thing you know we have. Well. I I got you you know would've been as solid effort that they -- for the guard to remove longer break here but as. So many Bobby Hebert has said this all year and even Steve court as we've talked on the first eight. Our our defense of you know our cornerbacks have not caught a lot of balls this year we've now we've dropped more than we've caught. But as Steve court tells me says. That's why they play defense and they're now wide receivers okay they knock the ball down they get the ball out of the way. Their prior -- that yes they try to catch it to make interceptions that's what you want but primarily they wanna stop. The receiver from getting the ball and if you look at most most really good you know cornerbacks and everything the shut down corners as they call him. They're the guys that knocked the ball away and keep the ball down they're not they don't always make interceptions. You know the -- rivas with the you know Revis island out the doesn't always make interceptions. But he'll keep you from catching the ball. All right -- excel on late 786688908. -- we'll take a short break. And to be right back when we come back will play Drew Brees. Press conference. Final game press conference his comments after the game that will take some more your calls texts. Here on season Sunday on WW well. And while back the Saints Sunday right now let's go ahead and played through breezes post game comments. From yesterday. -- Is there any. No I mean we're just thinking I -- Davanon scores. This quickly as we could and we benefited obviously from a big play and we are ready to sustain driving go down there -- any time you need a touchdown. I don't think you can score too quickly we get to tickle two point conversion -- to go up by three and I think that with a minute 41 time out and our defense felt. Very comfortable being that we go out there and stop him but he got to credit their offense in place they were able to make down the stretch. -- -- Where there are I'll. -- Narnia I figured that coming into this game they would feel like let's keep everything in front hustles like him a big plays. And obviously continued to do your job against the Russian try to put them third and long situations. They did. Yet again a great job in stopping the run in a lot of cases. Which he really I think we felt like you know in order to have to really get child should we have to throw it. And so we did have some big plays in the passing game a three turnovers obviously way too many turnovers but you know obviously that's a great defense as one of the best defenses in this league. Okay. You know obviously you understand you get the playoffs and it's in each week. Get a win to -- water or you go home and unfortunately we're the ones going home this time but. We knew the challenge come into play the 49ers. They've had a great season they earn that number two seed in this hostile environment creates some problems. This year going up against one of the best defenses in football. You know I think we traded punches all day long -- mean we mounted a great comeback in the end. But unfortunately it wasn't enough he got to hand it to their team. And the way that they battled as well. I think really that's just two great teams that are used to winning they know how to win know how to finish. Just going out and unfortunately -- can only be one winner. Here I -- You know really that just put more responsibility on Sproles theocracy. That's tough to lose here especially first series for the rest of the game to -- big part of what we do and you were able to mix and match him Sproles. They're really just gave you kept Sproles he'll feel a lot I think Darren did. An unbelievable job of handling both the run. Protection obviously caught a lot of passes today as well. Handling all those duties. Yeah yeah. Well here you put the ball into the end of your playmakers hands and they've done that all season Sproles is to analyses and Jim France and -- season. You know there. They mixed up the coverage on us quite a bit today they they gave us a lot of pressure looks as well so we caught him in those two instances in in basically -- -- man coverage and so that's risk reward there you know obviously you. If you miss a tackle and he's one of those guys. You know out in space and allow them to make a play in them and Sproles obviously took advantage of that -- engine. Yeah. Better. They I felt like we had all the pieces in place and I felt like were playing very very well. You know it as as we look at this game you know all you want -- chances to win in the hand and we had that. In fact that I see every game this year we've lost we've had a chance to win in the end. We've won a lot of them you know unfortunately we've lost a few unfortunately lost today but. I would say this is a special group of men -- it stings right now because of the expectation level that we had you know coming into this this tournament. And and understand that. It gosh we win here it can work in the NFC championship game and then anything can happen so that's it's tough tough to swallow at this point. A lot of. What hey -- let's -- it. Well I -- you just all the pieces come together and he felt we felt like we're -- -- best football as the year went on. Especially in the month of November and December which is your -- when you wanna be playing your best. As as you look you know what you get in the playoffs you feel like anything can happen. But I felt like the way that we are playing continually get better each week getting healthy. That says this is our opportunity to make a run and and we know that feelings like we do just two short years ago and we've got a lot of the same faces on this team that we had there. And some new guys some great addition so I think we all were. We've all bought there that we were we were all there everybody together feel like this was this is our opportunity this is our year. I mean we -- okay. Cassel. Especially dusty I say there is such personality and in the playoffs if you go from. Thinking about the NFC championship all of a sudden here you're going home and there's no more football. Until next year and you know I think the sad part of it is. You know we have our exit meeting here. -- when we get back is that can you look around the room and you hope that everybody will be back which you know there's there's some people that won't be. And we need you start to process all over here for the building your team creating your identity. But I do you feel like we have something special. With our team. With our our coaching staff with with everybody that's in our locker room and you know that's something that everybody wants to be a part of it it continue to build upon. Okay. Yeah this was in fact he'd say you know last time we came here. And put 49ers on Monday night they were the ones and five turnovers. We won that game and then you reverse the roles of we have five turnovers and and they were in the game and funny how things work out I mean it's it's the polar opposite of what we talk about coming into this game. Just understand this defense has been so good at taking the ball away they've got some of the vessel that's special teams in the week. And obviously they were able to take away from us twice on special teams. So you combine those those two on special teams in the three that they got you know from us offensively and -- out of it should be just about every time. The fact that we even had a chance at the end to win this game. It's pretty remarkable after five turnovers. Its. First drive. We're here and there is our Bob. The I would say it surprises me we we knew that come in and you can turn on the film and see that immediately but yet their there big tough physical team no comprehension. You know they've -- they thrive on that you know and that's what's been a huge part of their successes. You know their ability to stop the run rush the passer and obviously all those are. Because there physically out audio front and then -- we catch the ball there there -- might show up and try to get the ball out which there to do a few times well. So it's not that it surprises me we do. We knew that's where they played but. Certainly you know when you get the moment. -- on the road crowd noise hostile environment. You know. There there revved up ready -- mean you just know it's going to be it's communal they sucker. All right as Drew Brees is post game comments after the game yesterday the loss to the 49ers. And I -- thank good day fodder for men -- the board skimpy Ericsson phones of course the big chief Deke Bellavia joining me I'm Todd Manassas coming up next. It is the AFC divisional round the playoff game number two -- Houston Texans at the Baltimore Ravens followed by. The Giants and the Packers right here on WWL.
