-- -- a lot of information to get you rooting it in a short amount of time Christie Garrett Saints out and report at Christian Garrett won on Twitter. Follow him he's won 32 NFL sideline reporters at the day Saints. Rookie mini camp day 25 practices all week amount to Friday to -- and one tomorrow. The media availability much like a college availability for some program just able -- -- got a few things they get a few observations. Christian to give you his and just a few moments in the end. Coming up -- so when he with Saints coach Sean Payton had to say. Out of the saints' facility earlier today as a practice we can't go out there about 10301040. File -- about 2530 minutes of it. They went back at her coach Peyton that the twelfth anchors a lot to -- too but certainly I think it be fitting -- all the highlight of the day. A special moment and they're a class organizations in sports. At the Saints are a class organization many things they have done most recently. With the money that was so brought forth toward the eighteenth Gleason foundation five million dollar -- Saints on Tom Benson. And today coach Sean Payton. A big big day. For those who do not know -- walk as a young man play ball. For -- university he was injured -- falls ago and -- of -- -- we don't care about you and Aaron have come to his aid to university did a program called -- in the end to make things more feasible for him to be. At the -- being around home for his environment what he has to hand. And today on the day he graduated from Tulane University. The Saints announced they signed Kevin Walker at 281 day contract. And a Christian any kind of had a feeling when you saw it they haven't come out there and coached courtesy. I thought it was a of their special gesture at something that the young man will remember for the rest of his life he actually went and signed. A NFL contract and yeah it with the media that would that was not -- thought that was nice Christian. Yeah I mean you know again you touched on it just the class out of that organization. To recognize. That walker story. And just what he's all he's been through hum and you know who knows and that tragedy that happened he -- I had an opportunity. To be in camp with the Saints are another NFL team on this three day tryout basis or undrafted guy or maybe even -- and selected so. Yeah I'm athletes special certainly you could look at Devin he felt that this was a big big honor for him and Sean Payton. Certainly recognize the inspiration. In the story that comes out of them walker and you know Justin. Very limited interaction -- -- you can tell that he doesn't let his disability. Deter him from much me. He's out there doing as much he can albeit limited because of the them. The issue he has in in in the tragedy that happened to him on the football field but he was all smiles update today I think. -- great heart warming moment. No doubt about you know Christian duel with some of the some things that you could we could observe over the course of at the would have to be an out there with the Saints and it's it's camp. Had been things like what you what you come to expect like some of the things we heard today we wouldn't hear. And mini camp where I had dated June meaning like finished throughout you know coach -- over there watching the receivers finish out the full two yards on deep down in their position. You want your shoulders over your over your legs and -- when -- coming up things like that morsel you here and you know guys coming out of college. And you and -- over about a wide receivers Christian and the the there's Saints what they have this year in camp not they have had four. They had a couple real sizable receivers Christian 64 minute range and I don't know if we head of multiple guys like that it did that come into camp can be addressed the seat because when a guy has that type of physical presence. You know he he's a matchup problem now does he follow through does he do all the other stuff to really become their complete player and we certainly we point to what happened in 06. A bigger physical receiver named Marcus Colston. And here we go eight years later he's become a part of one of the all time leading pendant in the history of and it -- quarterback took. A receiver tenement touchdown receptions with -- -- Yeah and in guys it's in their camp right now records but receiver Brandon Coleman who went on draft and a lot of folks felt like. He had an opportunity get drafted in on the latter latter stages of the draft last weekend fifth sixth or seventh round and he went undrafted. Big guy at six foot six he could tell. He's you know he's not gonna move like like -- Joseph Morgan or. Like well like a branding coach he's not in a row like that Marcus Colston is deceptively fast that would necessarily look at them and say. And he's a burner you know he just runs precise routes and that's really kind of and it's it is meaning it's a bias and I can survive make some plays as well he does and also you know he catches everything thrown his direction decorating and and when -- colemans and intriguing players because you know when he went undrafted Dallas Saints fans were certainly wondering if he was going to be on the radar the New Orleans Saints and ended up. Signing here after you know after the draft -- he went on selected. And I know one of the things that attracted to it him to New Orleans was the fact that. The eight daylight these bigger receivers and he knows. Brandon knows that he's gonna have an opportunity here. To -- study Marcus Colston who oh by the way when he was a seventh round draft pick in 2006 that offseason and rookie minicamp. Mean it there was people wondered if you even make roster of make it to training camp just because he didn't look all that great -- out of shape and -- frantic Ohman has an opportunity here and -- impressing coaches with his size and and you know Sean -- we know devised. Ways of getting him involved in the pre season. And you know in the red zone is a big big targets may potentially I'm I'm maybe getting ahead of myself -- -- -- -- thing is. You know if you look at my articles that is 64 critical when it 66 and Jimmy Graham it 67. If you had a history -- On the field in the red zone way it is some basketball teams don't have quite like that. No doubt about he Saints have a -- Kristian garic and the ability it will take a quick break coming back before we take out of this -- -- -- coach Payton knew what he had to say. To the media day the Saints are rookies are practicing twice -- -- game tomorrow the -- of rookie mini camp as tryout players although the complete roster for you. And you also hear from rob -- Chris embodies take is they will -- -- a lowdown on what took place at -- mini camp rookie mini camp this is -- -- he's Christie Garrett and -- go beyond WW. He's Kristian -- and the ability Saints rookie mini camp continuing the media allowed him access. -- to cede about thirty minutes of practice also. A holiday the Saints signing a former Tulane standout Deborah walker at 281 day contract and a fitting moment out at Saints camp today or earlier after. The practice Saints coach on the Payton addressed the media. Just a couple of moves era. -- signed her to fifth round or 25 round picks to finish in series and Ronald Powell also our sixth round pick. Yeah -- -- Brooks. -- Just finished our third practice so we'll have another one this afternoon. And then no 1 in the morning big questions. Just on this yeah. We'll see if you play. Well you begin gathering information and new year we told him in the first meeting a -- evaluation process begins. Third they're a handful of different groups here and to be pretty simple we've got. -- drafted players from this past drafts we've got the free agents that we signed after the draft and then. There's also a number -- more than half. Of this camp has made up both three day trial players and those are some veteran players as well as. First your rookie players. You know the good thing is -- can get out here we go play in numbers so you're able run your girls. And you know you start becoming familiar with -- -- picking it up you know without without it being contact you really look at it installs and then quickly. Did their assignments down and -- losing shape they're kind of thing but so far so while the weather's been outstanding. Justin yeah. Yeah. Yeah these. He's he's. He is versatile he's someone he's obviously receiver. And you know I think we can. Line him up in the slot line him up outside. He's got. You know very good skill set with regard -- acceleration is speed and just the ball well. You know I like his toughness and so he's he's handled his first three practices well as far as the installations. You know we'll line him up FedEx we can move him around but right now we we typically try to get these guys to stay position in these in these early camps. And -- Partner in his position again and see what he's seen. -- I think so far you know he's he's handled what we're doing well he seems to be in good shape in. You know there's there's some positions that are more difficult just because you're not in pads -- last year. I give an example it was hard to really get a sense of how carry ran. In -- we got into training camp and and I would have guessed maybe he was a different style runner up. Through this spring time and then when we were in pads it was much different so. I think the same things apply for a for a handful of players that really the pats begin the defined him a little bit so but he's he's don't want. Was -- in the recovery -- forty seals it necessary to coordinate -- October. And you would look good camp today there added -- the recovery comes quick and -- -- direct something. Think they all vary. Then depending on the injury depending on rotation depending on the procedure there's there's a lot of variables that go into it and fortunately for him it was just specifically the ACL. Getting good procedure he's rehabbing well you'll be Smart and be careful. But he is able to move around and we felt we saw his second pro day for the first time he was able to work out he married we thought that. Did look pretty healthy and it was a complete work out and yet. There was one in which we saw enough to feel like you it was progressing so. We'll be Smart knowing him anytime you have a surgery like that. You know it it can take up to a year but we feel like he'll be full by the time we start training camp and him for the most. Or was what we're doing out here he's been good with -- Alex. -- Is this important -- and you need to see -- -- Well yeah. Well I think this. They were always paid attention to -- the ruined. He's big he's big target. He's been very productive. Then there's just some little things will work and along with him just with regards to his transition but he's picked things up well. He seems to be moving around well and the other thing is you -- you wanna begin to find out. Or educate yourself on what way we think these players should be so. But so far he's he's done a good job and and again with with the limited. Snaps as all the just he's handled it well but did you like Adam Jones Joseph Johnson and he looked. Well we're pretty familiar with -- we solve -- but LSU he actually threw. For our local workout here that we hold every year in the indoor facility. And don't have a camp like this it's important to have. Enough farms but he's athletic he's big he's picked picked things up well and you know just like the other two guys as quickly trying to get as familiar with the offense is possible but. He's -- he's handled it fairly quickly and it's still a work in progress there's things or ball with his foot mechanics has dropped mechanics. But we saw a couple workouts and and obviously. I have seen him play. Out. Here and there -- be. He's one of those veteran players that that -- three day work out he's Smart. He's very instinctive you can see that he makes good decisions have to snap the ball really rarely does the wrong thing. He's got good hands. It's my first exposure to really you know in this type setting him. He's been with a handful of teams I think everyone's. Everywhere he's been always there's been a niche for him so he's certainly in this type player that that knows what to do. Yeah players. I definitely. You see a difference and their ability to adjust and pick things up and. Yeah I hit it all varies you know there's some there's some rookies that that. Learned it's exceptionally fast and and they picked it up right away and then there's some veterans the same way they admit that they understand that the ropes a little bit more. But in saying that there's some veterans maybe that's that don't think it's -- big things up as easily. So it's it's a mixed bag knowing we try to really once they get here. Just put the name on the helmet and and really go -- what we see we try to do that as best we can. The pressure always is certain. To try to evaluate 21 or government -- work out players are here and make sure that we're a missile on someone that. Has done enough good things to to sign him to a contract that's the the key you know is making sure your. In a short period of time we're we're getting enough snaps to look at it or maybe one specific characteristic they do well we think can carry over. Honestly it was -- got him back in the program you know state and west Texas -- -- -- -- -- but -- -- I think so -- -- some -- -- -- Some of those other programs of them have done a really good job Grande valley. -- -- -- Each year now there there were other players aside from the ones that are here that are another camp so. You know what -- scholarships the way they are you do you see a lot of good football not just at the major college level in. So we try to stay out of accordingly and with Brandon Coleman was an injury concerns that made him an undrafted but I don't I -- I can't speak for the other teams. You know bum I don't I don't know. I know. It was going to be harder for us to draft a receiver after drafting one in the first round but I'm not sure he's he certainly has size. We -- you I think get a little bit more productive junior season but. You know it it's seven rounds is a lot and you know it used to be more than that so there's always. Shoot a number of guys not drafted that make rosters and I'm sure he's he's looking at that way and compete for a spot at that time did you -- -- Well let's just got re I think during the process. We're -- to the agents and a book the agents are Smart and they're able look over a period of one years three years -- go back nine years and then look at. The amount of players that made rosters -- free agent whether there. It carries a unique example -- that he was here on trial him. The Billy Miller was here is a veteran trial player in this camp. Then there was signed to a roster spot and ended up being real productive force for stretch so. I think that's something that served by reputation or didn't -- history and no we just. Got to try to educate them as quickly as we can it's a short period of time when the draft Vincent when your -- in a lot of these players. Yeah. Comments about our hospital in vina -- Allen thanks. Well it I've read a little bit on it just yesterday I can honestly. But I don't think I can shedding more light to it I don't think it's as big a deal may -- is because the initial. Who's been hit because it's happened and 789 other teams I think that'll take care of itself. My focus really is to make sure our locker rooms in good shape and -- have been getting prepared and look forward this season and in fact it's just big. For the team and I know they are you know so that'll that'll take care of itself an outstanding. He's a guy who comes in here and does seem wrong it's develops skills RC. Well address that position under and did I think he's sick he's -- well I think there's certain elements of his game that he. Is this further along than he he's certainly comfortable the line of scrimmage in a press technique because of the size. And in that being said because of decides when you play more off coverage that transition becomes a little bit tougher. But so far. -- really like what we've seen from him he's athletic he's got good ball skills he played receiver. And he seems to be real Smart. Is there anybody that did the first two days yeah we'll do your roster that was OK anybody got anything out here in the past the Cardinals. Well a lot of -- Could be hard to start single and our guys after three practices but we've got diesel cars. It's laminated cards with -- all the numbers -- problem is the smallest of small it's. So. I don't go back into my office of but the Raiders on the scene this. That is the overall group and the attitude has been outstanding I would say the weather obviously helps. And one of the things we always talk about right from the get go is just being available and so on a short three day period. You know you see where players may be have been dehydrated or maybe their shoes and calls a blister and they're not able practice in the PM there's a number of reasons. Maybe keep a player out but I'd say after three practices with the weather we've had. That for the most -- guys -- them. Very attentive. In the energy he's been very good evening my. Yeah we'll see you know I that's the the hard thing is making in his and a reevaluation we try to stay away from that but. You know we've got a ton of time here most of these yeah. Young players so bill stay with -- us now. Through the OTA days into the veteran mini camp there's a couple I think one specific example would be Brandon he's on the quarter system. So that'll put him back. That organ organs campus until his graduation and he'll he'll join us for the last week. -- organized team activities. But these guzzle slowly. Transition into what the veterans are doing right now it's just -- it. Running right. Well the one thing you your hope is that he's able to pick up the terminology so there's a metal element. Into the weekend. Then but -- carries Jason took a while there's a lot that were given him. You'll see that they can run and other fluid. But yeah there's a lot of things you can't see. And you know fortunately for us. We were able to get into the man to man roster training camp in and then. Did it became a little clearer but. You know it's it's it's -- -- it's footwork speed and agility that those are some of the things you can see out here without hasn't. When you're deciding who's going to be here for rookie mini camp where you didn't. Even if you -- roster. Undecided. Between. Different personality to each his own person is someone that could be -- Our our our focus starts with a great. Yeah we've got grades on not just the players drafted but it's every player and here's been graded on college tape so. When the -- one and down or in the seventh round we start second these magnets by grade and if you wanna look. That to grease board is always left -- quarterbacks. Might have a little one underneath that we're gonna sign one. And then we've got 345 of enlisted the magnets based on grade that we do that these position all the way over to kicker. And some positions might have two or three spots available. So. The challenge always is that in the process of calling these players on the draft sending. Of trying to. Trying to identify your top guys in him. Offer them the opportunity before you get to the the middle of the bottom of the big. Does that so it's really trust is done by grades did the scouting grade and then the -- -- there's space that we draft you know. The safety -- is probably going to be here a little harder for us to. To get a player we drafted as certain positions in college. Like I apologize I didn't ask this question correctly. I was asking -- guys. As the season aren't. Criminal nature born in Michigan and I didn't decide what is considered distraction from what English as a different -- -- -- -- you -- -- State your question we have to colors you know we've we've pay attention to the red color which is injury history in the blue color which character. So. Through the draft process. We very real close attention to their health and we meet with the doctors we go to the rejects an Indianapolis. And we establish if they're gonna be a red or a light red great with the injury with regards to character. You know we look closely it. School reports. Are security -- security. And now they're not red or blue they're like. -- I -- so we keep that simple. Exposure. -- that's secondary and if you ask him it's against the cage and he worked out for us at the local workout and he initially played running back. I wasn't as familiar with the player -- new course and CJ those guys. We're able can reference to what he did earlier in his career. So he worked out as a running back and it's a really good things he graduates this afternoon. So he'll be at that ceremony in this field but be back here for readings in -- practice tomorrow. But he's pretty Smart he's got real good hands. He's quick he's been impressive just in this short three day window or three practice when it isn't. -- yeah I think I think when he came to our local workout he wanted to work goes running back and I. To his credit I think he felt probably his chances were better with his size at that position and maybe played defensive back and I know he was -- player of the year. On defense and played a big roll them and their success so. Very quickly you can see why you're Smart then. He understands what we're doing. And it's England's seems to come pretty quickly do players. I've got we're gonna so we've got some roster spots here we've got a lot of times were full but our numbers it. Ninety total so we've got space. We're gonna sign. -- yeah. -- thought it was gonna drug movie hoosiers didn't even know. -- Looks pretty some. We'll -- and -- walker to a contract today cardinal's sixth. There's a team captain for the green wave in 2012. Became an overnight as a walk on earned a scholarship starting safety. Obviously. He's been an inspiration to do our region our community in New Orleans. At Tulane family and it's carried over just the Saints. So. It's a pretty good day for you you didn't sign. In the morning graduate in the afternoon. He's officially -- when -- They can sign a contract that makes it look good over the picture you -- break bonus in their. Or assign individual contract. I'm proud to be up here with them and -- -- super proud -- his recovery. And the way he's able this way he's approached this and I know it is and we are thankful for the support. From so many of you that. That have helped -- this process. I'm assuming that. We good in it's graduate isn't it dribble the ball. Your clothes your running back will be up there with the -- Just to Lamar graduate today and we'll see about this afternoon's practice. Big questions. Oh yeah. There is almost like it's like 100 is the truth about Saints themselves. Before long. Fans here also. Just to be close teams -- severe La. Or not so we'll. We'll find out about. I just I just farmer takes goes probably isn't -- yeah. Well. Yes it -- pitchers limber up Lou obviously it's the obviously a lot of guys have violence. Go overboard. You do it my my -- the Bears lose and when I gave me through wins those yeah. It was an -- Dynamic. And beyond the. And -- put it you know. Even in his role do you see the leadership. And and I think it. Permeate through through the team and a coach Johnson those guys. I think -- I think all of whom became better for having been around. Devin inspiration he's giving him that just rubs off it came -- -- point so. We're excited I know him and I'm fired -- stimulus. Graduation here well that's that's it's huge. Thank you very much. Coach on Peyton today aptitude rookie mini camp practice at the -- you saw. They signed -- safety -- -- Cora to a contract and they're feeding a moment there if anybody knows about you know all I was injured a -- years ago. With Tulane has become an inspiration in the gulf south. And now what are they what they think him and his family he's Kristian -- and he noticed he had become we're here Christians take what Bobby Hebert and Saints defense wanted to.
